So here is my question word bearers where red, then after the emperor spanked them and started the heresy and burned the city they had white armour. So at the time if heresy should the armour be white or red?

I need to go to work every day.

Other way around. They had pale grey armour, which, after the heresy, they covered in blood which turned it reddy brown. They had started sacrificial practices before the heresy got underway, so you could justify either.

have also seen metallic red in many photos...and I like it.

Did all my word bearers up in metallic red with some black for accents came out pretty good.

weren't they painted red in honor of that chapter that became the first possessed?

They had grey armour, then when Argal Tal and the other Serrated Suns went into the eye and got possessed, the Serrated Suns changed their armour to the crimson. By Istvaan most of the legion was in crimson. And I think the black of the chaplains was to represent the soot and ashes of Monarchia after it was destroyed by the Ultramarines.

So if I do red/metaloc red, black and white with bronzeish trim all work with word bearers in 30k. I have most of mine painted whire bone ish but most are just ashen circle then I got 20 val ready to paint red it sounds like.

But the rest can be a mismatch? I cant find a sure cut anwser if it is units, companys or what changed colours lol. I am making 5 units of 20 mk 3 word bearers 2 with heavy weapons. 20 val and 20 ashen circle.

Forge World's take is that only the Serrated Sun wore crimson at Isstvan, but afterwards spread throughout the Legion "in fits and starts" (ie: ad-hoc manner).

They never had white armour, they had grey before the Crimson.

They started out grey. Furious Abyss shows when they got their arterial red armour.

Serrated Suns were red first though.

They had one marine in black that would go and ask cities and armies to surrender before launching an attack.

For the red though... I see alot of people going blood angels or Thousand Sons red. Seems way too bright to me. Should be dark, dried blood color.

dried blood is brown

I'm actually curious: TS are a pretty dark red when you go non metalic (khorne red base), wouldn't the order of brightness go Blood Angels, Word Bearers, Thousand Sons?

I don't have access to my FW books right now, but they show them as a dark, almost maroon type red. Definitely not what gw put on the BoC box set lol. I'll snag pictures later today

I'd put the order Blood Angels, Thousand Sons and then Word Bearers, as foto69man said, the Word Bearers are more of a Maroon compared to the Reds of the Angels and Sons.

Word Bearers are the darkest yeah, at least 'officially'.
