I was thinking of having an extra trukk taking up a fast attack slot that I would keep real close to an occupied trukk, so when the meganobz's trukk blows up, they can quickly embark into the next trukk, assuming that didn't blow up as well, and continue to go full speed right into the enemy's deployment line my next turn.

I was then thinking of having two more units of meganobz do this same trick to really increase my chances of getting my meganobz into combat.

Trukks are cheap; so really doesn't cost that much to do this.

Any ideas or criticisms on this tactic?

I would personally just pay for a gun wagon and put the nobz in that. Its 13/12/10 with a twin linked big shoota, but is not fast. Its 60 points (so you could afford your two trukks for its cost), but said trukks provide easy kills for the other player and when your meganob trukk gets blown up they are going to get shot pretty heavily before they can get back in the new trukk (assuming its alive) and when they do this they cant disembark and charge again.

Fast Attack is also the slot for bikers (assuming you didnt bring Zhadsnark for troop bikers) and deff koptas both of which are some of the best units in the codex.

On the other hand if you take a gun wagon you get a far more resilient transport albeit at the cost of only having a capacity of 10. While it is not fast I dont think it really needs it to get the nobz into position. Move the full 12, flat out 6 and you are already 6 inches away from the enemy on turn 1. Queue turn 2 and you are looking out a 1 inch charge. However the gun wagon is a heavy support choice so it also eats up spots for some of the best units in the codex like Lootas and mek gunz.

Your idea is not stupid by any means, but I think taking that 30 points for a deffkopta is a better, more reliable alternative.

I think that sounds like a very smart idea - it's not like the bonus trucks will be useless either, they can act as distractions, speed bumps, and block LOS if they're not gunned down (by some miracle)

And don't forget capping objectives with them. 'Used' trukks always net me a lot of points in this way.

An empty trukk is basically as good as a deffkopta so using the slot isn't really a waste, but I just take like 6-8 full trukks in my list and use the surviving ones to go back an pick up the stragglers before capping objectives.

But if you aren't using Zhad as your warlord you need those FA slots for warbikes. Lotsa warbikes. Even just min units of 3 are super competitive, especially for orks. Think eldar scatbike spam that's less mobile, more survivable, better in CC, and comparable dakka. If you do have Zhad, then they get obsec to boot. It's a pretty sweet deal. That gak is top tier international tournament meta, and orks can do it as well as anybody else. No wraithknight to draw makes it less effective, but we get the discount stompa or now even a knight or two, and they can handle fire better than eldar anyway.
