I'm trying to get together a 1k list for alpha legion so I can start playing games. I of course want it to have some chance on the table but its more important that the list fits the fluff of the 20th legion in some way.

How does this look? Will it work well and does it fit the fluff?

FOC: Age of Darkness
RoW: Pride of the Legion

HQ:
- Legion Praetor - Cataphractii Armour, Power Dagger, Banestrike Rounds, Paragon Blade - 165

Troops:
- Legion Cataphractii Terminator Squad (5) - 2x Chainfists, Plasma Blaster, Banestrike Ammo, Sergeant (Chainfist, Power Dagger) - 245
- Legion Cataphractii Terminator Squad (5) - 2x Chainfists, Plasma Blaster, Banestrike Ammo, Sergeant (Chainfist, Power Dagger) - 245
- Lernaen Terminator Squad (7) - Conversion Beamer, Harrower (Power Dagger, Chainfist) - 345

The praetor will join the lernaens and I will probably choose either scout or infiltrate as my mutable tactic. Any thoughts on this list?

So, same again; the praetor will join the lernaens. How well do either of them fit with the fluff and how well will either of them work on the table?

First off, you haven't stated which armour the legion termies are wearing, but for Alpha Legion Fluff I would be more fluffy if they were in Tartorus and not Cataphractii, including your praetor. That is my only though on the fluff in this list.

Oh, right. I will edit that in. They will be in cataphractii as with so few models on the table and no transports, they need the added durability. I also prefer the look of the cataphractii armour. The praetor has cataphractii armour as he will be joining the lernaens, who wear cataphractii armour

I'd go with those tacticals you get in BaC and run them as Vet Snipers.

Put 2 HBs or MLs in the Vet squads,

Vet x 10 (200) + HB x 2 (40) + Art Armour (10) + Rhino (35) = 285/squad. Add what ever extra chrome as you see fit. Pg 20 red book.

Going back to the all infiltrating (or all scouting, etc...) terminator force, how about this one?

Does this still fit the fluff? And does it still work OK on the table?

You could save points by dropping some of those chainfists (one on every guy is overkill, I usually take 2 on 5 and 3 on 10). Banestrike ammunition is also very bad. With the points saved you should easily be able to take a bunch of combi-weapons.

That said, unless you're playing Zone Mortalis, I don't see this list winning many games. You can't run in cataphractii armour, and infiltrate/scout only gets you so far up the board. If you're playing standard missions, you will find yourself hard-pressed to actually reach the objectives even if your units would otherwise do well when mixed up with others.

You could potentially deploy the Lernean squad and walk them forward with their conversion beamer, and deep strike the remainder of the army so you can get into rapid-fire/melee/objective range, but it's risky with no reserve manipulation.

At 1000 points, I would look to a Delegatus for my Warlord and not think twice.

Also note that relics are meant for campaign play.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but terminators can't deep strike in 30k unless you are playing a specific legion?

If you have player permission you can use them, but I wouldnt build around something you have to always ask to use.

Also yes, unless you have specific Legion Terminators upgraded with the Option, or Orbital Assault RoW you cant deep strike your terminators.
