In my gaming group we have a player that, during our list building time, will ask 1000000000000000000 questions. From "what war gear do they have?" to "well why would that unit matter?" and everything in between, and i do mean everything. SOOO last weekend Question guy and our Nids player were building 2.5k lists and the questions start rolling in "How many MC's are you taking?" "whats synaps do you have?" "why did you give them that?" and on and on and on. It was at that moment that i (playing the role of game master/rule looker uper) said "You can only ask 3 questions!" and that has been adopted as our house rule.

To clarify, this is during list building and not actual gaming. During games there are a lot of questions that you should/have to tell, Like unit types, wargear, stats ext. What i mean is pre game questions about some ones army make up and such.

Here are my three questions:

1.) Are you taking any flyers/flying MC's?

2.) Are you taking a lord of war?

3.) Are you going for bound or unbound?

What are your thoughts on this, your three questions, and or reaction to being asked these kinds of questions before a competitive style game?

Those are generally the 3 questions I ask. I also generally ask if they are going to be fielding a lot of armor, I only ask this question because the only way orks can take out armor is to run up to it and smack it with a Power Klaw.

The three questions I ask are:

1. How many walkers have you killed?

2. How many people have you killed?

3. Why?

Not really relevant to 40k but it is need to know information.

I don't think you should ask any questions for competitive 40k. Everything is in. All you should do is agree on format; ITC, ETC, Nova, etc and make your list blind to what your opponent is doing.

For causal; go through the whole prenuptial agreement process.

How competitive a game do you have in mind?

How many points do you want to play?

When can we get together to play?

How many beers have we got?
Are they cold?
Do we need more snacks?

As far as game related questions go we don't usually ask each other anything about army composition. If we want to play our next game without any Super-heavies we'll agree to that, but if that agreement isn't made you know it's possible you may face one next time. Other than that it's all fair game, for me a lot of the fun of the game is being surprised by the units, wargear and strategy of my opponent.

Yep, I'm with that.

I only have one question - 'Do you have a list ready to go, or am I going to have to sit around for half an hour waiting for you to do something that should have been done before you showed up today?'

If the answer is the latter, I'm going to go play someone else who actually did their homework.
