Good afternoon first time poster here

I've recently taken up the Astra militarum and have a battle with a friend coming up. Were looking at playing a mission game.
last time we played his thunder wolf cavalry ripped me a new one.

any suggestions would be great.

So far I'm looking at taking for 1850

HQ:
Pask/punisher with heavy bolters
Executioner with plasma cannons

Elite:
tempestus platoon
1 comand squad with 2 plasma 2 melta
2 scion squads with 2 hot shot vollies and 4 scions with squad leader

Troops:
2 Vets squads with 2 melta in chimera
2 vet squads with plasma in chimera

Fast attack:
Vendetta with Las all round to drop the tempestus platoon

Heavy support:
Basilisk

Allied detachment
Callidus assasin

When in doubt, diddly it out.

Get an Ordo Xenos inquisitor with Rad and Psychotroke grenades and a platoon of at least 40 men and a priest or ideally 2. Then ram them into the Thunderwolves and hope for a good psychotroke roll. I believe this is the only type of unit in the codex that has a chance against a TWC deathstar. That said, sometimes it is VERY successful. I play vs TWC all them time and have killed the entire squad before they have even been able to fight back (due to a psychotroke roll) and, much to my space wolf opponent's chagrin, had them killing each other while 40 gaurdsmen bayonetted them to death (again thanks to a psychotroke roll). In that particular combat, they all died without a single guardsman falling. My friend said he was going to pack up his wolves and walk home several miles in the rain.

I fear your current list will end the game with no survivors other than the Vendetta because everything else can be swept away very easily by the TWC, though this does depend somewhat on how he equips his TWC and what characters join them. Against a melee heavy opponent like Space Wolves, you really need a solid bubble wrap for your tanks.

I hadn't thought about using an inquisitor, I'll look into that.

Cheers

When in doubt, diddly it out.

Enfeeble then hit them with earthshakers and battle cannons.

Also what do you mean by the Vendetta dropping off the Tempestus Platoon?

I was making the tempestus platoon a suicide squad for a priority target to be grav dropped out of the vendetta

When in doubt, diddly it out.
