Hey mates, just a quick question for you. As it stands, looking to rebuild my Black Templars Crusade again (will be using Imperial Fist and Blood Angel Tactics/Special Rules as well as BT Chapter Tactics are lacking right now) and for obvious reasons, I am most likely going to field Cataphractii Terminators in my list. With that being said, any particular way you guys like to run them? Currently I am considering the following:

* Sgt. w/Combi-Bolter & Power Sword
* 2x w/PF, Combi-Bolter
* 7x w/Lightning Claw, Combi-Bolter

Pretty balanced overall. Gives them some shooting ability as well as some potential to do damage in CC. Anyways, just curious on how people plan to field these guys and I appreciate the feedback. Really feel that these guys can do a bit more as having a 4++ base is pretty sweet.

Honestly, I don't. I'm in the process of building a marine army, but cataphractii just don't cut it for me. They definitely have a buff over regular terminators, but I don't think it makes them worth while.

Cool models though.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

If I ran them I would go 5 man squads and give them a dedicated purpose. I would probably be boring though and go with 5 combi bolters and power fists. I would consider giving the sergeant a claw or keeping the sword if I expected that I would need him to strike at initiative.

Running them as a 5 man claw squad also has appeal, but I would not bother with it personally because you could get assault centurions to do the same job, but better.

Don't go claw + stormbolter. The shooting output is all but irrelevant, the extra attack is not.

I don't - they have the Slow and Purposeful rule.

Well, I have 5 Red Butchers. The only way to run them is in a LR.

Actual answer? Everyone with 2xLC, in a LR.

But I assembled mine before the rules came out, and I wanted to be able to use them in both 40k and 30k. As I already have more tactical terminators then I need, I assembled them all as assaults. With no TH/SS, that meant all lightning claws.

If I had it to do over again:

I still think assault is their best option. While I love HFs, a S&P unit is probably the worst place to put them. The only other guns they bring are bolters, and their are better ways to get those to the table.

The bulk of the squad is going to be claws. The primary job of the squad is going to be blending MEQ, or burying other units under wound spam. At least one guy is going to get a chainfist, to prevent being tarpitted by dreads and the like. While I think the HF might not be worth it, I might add it just because.

The sarge is a tricky one. I’m not normally a fan of 1W guys with powerfists. But he has a 4++ and gets it for free. There are a lot of ways to get re-rolls, so the loss of the master crafted sword is not that big a deal. Re-rolling the wounds, or hitting a S8 AP2 is probably more important. The grenade harness is probably with it.

So for a 5 man squad:
3x Paired LC
1x HF/chainfist
Sarge w/ bolter/powerfist, grenade harness.

Works out to an even 200 points, which is a nice bonus. If I wanted to be more efficient I’d drop the HF. But if I was overly concerned with efficiency, I’d probably not be taking them in the fist place.
