I am starting of with a small Blood Angels force and will be using Assault Marines extensively, just because they look wonderful.

Now, whilst thinking about the equipment of their sergeants I was not entirely sure what to use. Lightning claws look ok, but Power fists pack more punch. Or should I go for the powersowrd instead?

Your thoughts please, educate this SM newbie .

Depends on what you want him to do.

Power Sword - if you have a Pistol
Lightning Claw - if you have a Bolter/Combi-Weapon
Power Fist - if you're looking for AP2 and don't mind I1.

For my Assault Marines, I either run 2 Meltas or 2 Plasma in a Rhino. Combi if points, but they are the first points to drop since I normally just have my marines popping stuff from the safety of the Rhino.

It also depends whether you get to take Melta-bombs.
MBombs are good in place of a Power Fist, if all you want to do is smash a vehicle open. It is only 1 attack though, as opposed to the A# of the model.
But, it lets you take a different weapon if popping was the only reason to take the fist.
The fist also gives a better range of Instant Death.

IIRC, taking the fist AND the claw gets you an additional attack, and the choice of which to use.

All right. It looks like Powersword will be my weapon of choice with one serge with dual lightning claws just for coolz.

Power fist if you have someone else in the squad to take challenges. It really comes into its own if it's backing up a better, faster squad leader. IE throw a fist sergeant next to a tooled up captain or chaplain and suddenly he starts getting real awesome. By himself he tends to die before swinging so go claws if no other characters in the squad.
