Subject: Black Templars: Chapter Tactic Worth It?

Hey mates. I am considering the Black Templars again as they where my first army back in the day and I have been seriously considering going them again. But lately I have noticed a huge decrease of Black Templar Armies running around in this edition. Are Black Templars basically no longer worth playing due to there lack of effective Chapter Tactics? I have seen a few but most run other Chapter Tactics utilizing there BT models with those. Is that how the Black Templars can be effective in this edition?
If not, please let me know what awesome ways the BT can still be competitive. What units are the most effective? What tactics can utilize the Templars to the fullest? Any special Characters worth taking? Basically, all the noob questions that a brand new BT player should ask, as I am seriously jumping back into the Crusade for the good of the Emperor. Appreciate the help mates!

If you're looking for a more fluff-based army and don't care about winning every game, BT are kinda okay. Their special characters are cool fluff-wise but not great on the table - Grimaldus is overcosted, Emp's Champion is ineffective, and I'm not sure about Helbrecht. Mostly though, any other SM chapter does what the BT do, but better.

Grimaldus is arguably one of the best chaplains you can get.

BT can be very competitive if you know what you're doing. Crusader Squads are very versatile and can take both a Special and a Heavy weapon in a five man squad. You can also bring a meatshield for every Initiate you have in a squad. Automatically Appended Next Post: BT can be very competitive if you know what you're doing. Pretty much this. As a BT player, they're very fun to play (especially if you play them fluffy), but they're a (relatively) high skill cap and you can't usually win easily with them.
So the question is: What do you want to get out of it?
(1) A fluffy, fun army?
(2) Or an army that can win without required you to be a master tactician and list builder.
If you answered the question with (1), then Black Templars are awesome. If you answered with (2), then you're probably better off with a different Chapter.

Honestly, the two things Templars can do that others cannot do to a similar level of power is to slingshot a large Crusader Squad using a Bastion with escape hatch, and fielding ObSec LRCs. The Chapter Tactics themselves hamper more than help; Librarians are the best non-SC Characters in the Codex ATM.
