So for a while now I have been painting my crimson slaughter models as emperors children and still running them in the crimson slaughter formations in game, fluffwise I have always justified this as in the new suppliment when Krannon recieved message that his chapter was exiled he sent warning to those crimson sabres on their homeworld to flee, I used to say my army is a group that fled and seeked haven with the emperors children. But now Ive fallen in love with the FW Fulgrim model and been wanting to paint and run it on the table ever since. So I have been thinking about my current armies fluff and how I can make this work and this is the best thing I could come up with.

So when my small group of crimson sabres/slaughter run by a reasonably unremarkable lord fled to the eye of terror out of exile and fear they stumbled upon the elusive Fulgrim on an unknown planet within the eye of terror. I imagine they only observed from afar and kept their distance but none the less this unremarkable chaos lord was enamered with the primarch, he was struck with such awe and contemptuous envy that he became unrelentingly obsessed with him, going as so far as to attempt to immitate his every facet, carving up his own face to resemble Fulgrim and adorning anything he can and even creating his own mock Emperors children chapter to command to further feed his evergrowing obsession, such excess also curdling favour with slannesh. So now my small crimson slaughter warband seeks to sate my chaos lords insatiable envy as he feebly attempts to slaughter his way to what he sees as godhood

So thats it in a nutshell, I feel this explains why my small crimson slaughter warband are painted as EC, as well as why my chaos lord looks like fulgrim on the board but also dies like a bitch in most games. The real question is would you be ok with seeing a fulgrim look alike on the board? Would you be happy with the fluff/excuse? And if you think there is anything wrong with my fluff or even if you think its a stupid idea be sure to let me know

You're not looking for some rules advantage- you're looking to use cool models. I never have a problem with that! As long as wargear doesn't start to get too crazy to remember.
I use both Crimson Slaughter supplement and the Black Legion supplement for the rules as I make my own personal and unique forces, painted however the heck I want.

Anyone that had a problem with you using a cool model to represent your warlord instead of the official "Chaos Lord" model is a tool and you're probably better off not playing against that guy anyway.

Oh I don't write my own codex entriee or anything for all intents and purposes he will be a normal chaos lord with codex certified wargear (no more that 1 artifact too) I was just wondering if anyone had a problem with the model on the board, also if I take normal wargear am I still advantaged?

I have no problem so long as your not trying to run him with fulgrim's stats, as even a full-on EC 'Veterans of the Long War' warband wouldn't even be able to get that boon in the fluff.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I prefer Crimson slaughter anyway fluffwise, so I couldn't run any units with "veterans of the long war" even if I wanted to

Also its really great to see the overwhelming support! Might buy him sooner than I thought if this many people think its a good idea, although I should probably finish painting my army first
