Hey all

I'm wondering if any of you fine people can help me. I was handing drilling a Cygnar Centurion spear last night when the needle drill snapped off inside the shaft, just deep enough I can't get it out.

I don't know what to do. I can't get in to get it out. The spear shaft isn't think enough for me to try to drill it out with a wider drill, and Id probably end up just driving it deeper anyway.

It's 2-3 mm in, so I suppose I could try and use that depth to pin the spear head, but if anyone has any tips on getting out stuck drill bits I'd rather give that a try first.

Thanks in advance.

Drill a small hole right next to the stuck bit, use sculpting tools or knife tips to loosen the bit, then pliers to get it out.

Would a magnet work? Or what about pushing some blutac in it to see if it sticks and pulls it out?

If the snapped off drill bit is sunk deep enough that you have some space for a pin to grab, just leave it. and pin the piece . Or try drilling deeper even.

I had a drill snap off in a giant and just left it there. I pinned the hole where the drill was.

This is what I always try first. Or tweezers since then can get into tighter spots than pliers.

This may help.

Trevor has a drill bit stuck in his tail. If you can't drill next to it, you're stuffed.

Thanks for all the tips guys. They're all really helpful.

Magnets - thanks, but I tried that. I have a stack of around 20 rare earth magnets with one hell of a pull, but the bit won't shift (but be stuck as hell).

Blutack - Never even thought of that - thanks. I'll give it a go tonight as soon as I get home and report back.

Drilling a hole next to it - I'm not sure this is going to be an option. The spear shaft isn't that thick. Although having just ordered a micro drill bit set to replce this one if there's a small enough bit in the set I'll give it a go if the blu-tack doesn't work, and again report back.

Just elaving it there - this will be my fall back back if I can't get it out. The blade I'm pinning isn't that heavy, but it is metal. I'll have about a 2mm hole to work with, which I'm not 100% certain would be enough, but if that's what I'm left with, I'll have to go with it .

Thanks again, guys.

2mm would probably be enough, all you need is good contact. ANY pin makes a flush joint exponentially stronger, you don't really need depth (though it helps).

Get some green stuff and a paperclip, jam them all in there together, and araldite the hell out of it.

Green stuff, gotcha. Would I need to use glue with the greenstuff also?

Apologies if that's a stupid question - I've only started using GS literally in the last week, so I don't know if glue sticks it or if there would be any other issues.

No. You can't really put glue in before the GS (well, you can, but it will be hilarious), but if you just jam some glue in there when you're setting it.

OK, blutac didnt' work. Gave a go, but the hole was just too small.

Not the best photo, bt here goes:

Looking again at the room I had I didn't think drilling a hole to the side was an option (plus the bits I ordered will take around 20 days to gt here (that's ali express for you), so i ended up just going for it.

I had to cut the pin down to this size to get it in:

Not a huge amount, but it seemed to be stable enough:

Of course only time will tell.

Thanks again for all the pointers guys!
