Hello all,

I am new to Dakka Dakka and have recently returned to the hobby after a gap of nearly decade.

I have recently cleared out my old painting & modelling shed and have decided to get my old Ork Waaagh rebuilt and painted - quite a task as I already have approx 2000 pts and barely any of it is painted!

But, I digress. Here's a little '15 minute kitbash' that I attempted to get myself back into the hobby.

Apologies in advance for the bad photography - The lighting is not great in the aforementioned shed and these were more reference pictures for myself rather than documentation pictures to share.

Here is the (WIP) result:

My plan was to use various parts from my bitzbox to convert an old (5th ed?) Orc Starter Set Arrer Boy to an Ork Weirdboy. I was particularly drawn to this model because of the pose of the fingers - These are meant to be 'releasing a boy string' fingers, but they also seemed to work quite well as a 'summoning a ball of warp energy' gesture.

I also chose this boy because I have a few lying around from my brief foray into WHFB, and I quite liked the toof necklace - It gave the Weirdboy an appropriate 'wild' look.

I was initially unsure of what parts from my extensive bitz box I would use, so the photos below show a few odds and ends that I did not end up using. The major parts were as follows:

1 x Ork Arrer Boy Single Pose Model (5th/6th Ed?)
1 x 40mm Base
1 x Small Rock
1 x Beastman Skull
1 x Chaos Marauder Cloak

I did plan on using more bitz to decorate the staff and body of the model, but I actually found after assembly that the model looked much 'cleaner' without adding too many random gubbinz. Itherefore kept it quite simply.

Assembly was a fairly basic process of cutting away the bow (Minus the metal hand guard) and clipping and reposing the hand to a 45 degree angle. The cloak fit perfectly on the orks shoulders, and the model was based using a small rock found in the garden.

I went through a few versions of the staff - Originally experimenting with cotton bud stem plastic (No Plasticard on hand)

I think the final staff design looks pretty good and stands out quite well. The beastman skull is eye-catching and the cloak adds a little dynamic action and 'weight' to the figure.

What do you guys think? It's a very simple conversion, but I think it will look quite effective on the battlefield.

I have included a few pictures of the Weirdboy and a few other WIP Orks acting as supports and a small diorama.

Please note, this conversion was planned before seeing the 'new' weirdboy model. In comparison, my weirdboy will be smaller but will fit the aesthetic of my Ork warband quite well, I hope!

I think you nailed it, sometimes its using a part in a different way than intended that makes for simple yet effective convertions. Keep em coming.

Cheers! I have plenty of recent and past conversions I could showcase.... I was always more of a modeller rather than a painter (Lack of patience) or a player (Lack of local players!) but I think almost every single one of my plastic or metal models has been converted in some way, even if just a bend sword angle or a few extra bits and pieces.

I have plenty of Orc Arrer Boyz >>>> Something 40k in the pipeline. You can actually see a couple of my Krumpin' Kommandoz in the background of one of the shots below/in my gallery - These boyz will likely be in my next thread, as well as a few 'dynamic' shoota boys - Stay tuned!
