Forgive my uneducated question, but I haven't played a tourney in nearly a decade so I'm not 100% on ITC policy. I saw stand in wargear is different than a proxy, but I wanted clarification. If I bring an Alpha w/arc maul but the maul doesnt fit the list so its not used but is modeled, is that ok? Secondly, i bought some SM bikes and some have flamers/meltas but I wanted all gravs, are those equally ok stand ins? Or do I need to remodel before the tourney?

Having a close combat weapon like an Arc Maul that you aren't using is generally okay., since you can just claim it's their built in close combat weapon without much trouble. (though some close combat weapons are too distinctive to get away with this, like Thunder Hammers and Power Fists)

However, it's unacceptable in almost every event to try and claim that one weapon (like a flamer or melta) is a different kind of weapon you're actually using, since that totally breaks WYSIWYG and is very confusing to your opponent. In fact, that's the exact kind of scenario that most events' no-proxy rules are trying to prevent. In most cases you'll need to actually model the appropriate weapon.

Ok great. I can work around the grav gun situation so much easier than the alphas. So thats fantastic Ill just grab some gravs and start swapping arms out. Thanks for the advice

While Pythius is in Penn., I'm in Calif. so regionally, or maybe even store to store, the WYSIWYG enforcement might vary, ITC or not.

So you checked this, yes?

Call the TO and ask how the group or the LGS handles it.

I thought I'd bring the ITC modeling text here.

Modeling and Painting

- In order to be eligible for any prize support, all models in your army must be painted to a 3 color minimum. Primer counts as a color.
- All models are expected to be WYSIWYG to a reasonable standard. Exceptions will be made for themed units or armies.
- Using a proxy for a model violates our policy.
- Using a reasonable substitute to “Counts As” another model, does not violate our policy.
- If in doubt, send a picture in of a model to your TO in advance to ask if it is acceptable.

Regarding bullet 2's 'reasonable standard',

I think you can get away with a little conversion, perhaps? And an easy one, too. File & round the melta's nozzle, paint some blue glow from its 'bulb'. Same for the flamers. Bingo. Gravguns! Not too bad an investment of your time, coming in as an unknown dude. It shows you put in effort.

If you were one of the regulars, having bought 2nd hand models, your buddies would likely forgive the first non-WYSIWYG showing.

I've been using big based jetbikes (with Shuriken catapults) for ScatBikes since the 7e codex and no one bats an eye ( a lot of other players do, too ) , an LVO, another GT and 2 BAOs included, and numerous RTTs since. Riptides are glued with those big ugly guns, and I think it's generally acceptable to have HBCs when you glued the IonAccel on (like I have) or vice versa. WKs with glued guns being proxied for a Sword and Board or even a Skathach is generally acceptable in my experience.

However, I won't try pass off Hawks for Fire Dragons at a GT. Then again, my local RTT peeps were okay with subbing Dire Avengers for Spiders to give the spam a try, just the one time. I've been buying up spiders (Driving the Bandwagon ) since.

Again, ask in advance. Heck, try to have a beer with one of the players. Get the TO to make some contacts.

Most often, the Rule of Cool can apply.
