Getting back into the hobby and I would love some feedback on my first army list under the 7th edition. I purchased the Horus Heresy box set a few months back and this list is largely based on what I can build out of that boxed set. I will just be playing casual games with friends and maybe pick up games at my local shops. The list is not intended to be uber competitive. If it seems lame based on the current rules please let me know as I have only played one 500 pt game in 7th edition. I really just love the Gladius Strike Force double Demi free transport perk and that is what this list is based on.

Tactically I see the army having three elements that I am calling the "Gun Line", "Aggressive Force" and the "Quick Reaction Force".

The Devastators, Lascannon Razorbacks, Suppression force Whirlwinds and Contemptor Dread form the "Gun Line". The Contemptor Dread will be counter assaulting anything threatening the "Gun Line" or push up with the "Quick Reaction Force" if needed.

The Chaplin, Captain, Drop Pod mounted Tactical squads and Landspeeders will be the close range "Aggressive Force" .

The Tactical squads in the free Heavybolter Razorbacks will be a "Quick Reaction Force". They will take objectives and support the "Aggressive Force"

Not a bad list overall.

There are a few things I’d do different, but points are very tight in a list this style at this level.

Strombolters are not worth the points these days, sadly. You would be better off with a bolt pistol to pair with the sword for an extra attack. If you do want to keep the SB, at lest upgrade the sword to a lightning claw. If you aren’t getting the extra attack, might as well get shred. If you are going to put him into a melta squad in a pod, giving him a combi to shoot with them could be nice. Personally, I like my captains as pure CC units. YMMV.

Tac squads are fine

I know you have the MLs from the BaC box, but they are pretty “meh” on the table (look cool though) Tank Hunter for the IF tactics make them a little more palatable. I’d prefer LCs for the AV role. While they get a lot of bad press, HBs are iconic and fun. With bolter drill a dev squad of them can put some dakka downrange. Not a competitive option.

Dread is good, but a lot of points. I might cut him just to buy some more upgrades.

If you had the points, 2xMM speeders are better then single melta ones. Nothing sucks more then zipping your speeder up, pressing its nose against a tank, and rolling that miss to-hit. It takes 3-4ish melta shots to reliably pop a tank. I prefer HB/TML speeders in general these days.

Also, consider bikes for the FA pick. They are mechanically better then most of the options. Optionally, a 5 man assault squad with a pair of flamers works well, especially in this style of list.

Suppression force is a good aux.

Instead of the Storm Bolter, you could always go with the relic Bolt Pistol from Angels of Death. You could do worse than 5 pts for a Master-Crafted, Ignores Cover Bolt Pistol.

Otherwise, what you have looks pretty good. Nevelon covered most everything else.

That Bolt Pistol is pretty darned efficient at 5pts!

Yup. Better than almost every other 5 pt upgrade for a Captain. I would use it on my Librarian, but he already has the Bones of Osrak so that is a no-go.
