Just curious, but I sometimes like to field a small Detachment-based list for my Deathwatch. With the changes to Transport, I'm curious if I can still take it.

1st Company Taskforce (Imperial Fists CT)
- Vanguard Veteran Squad
- Terminator Squad
- Sternguard Veteran Squad (this is the important one)

Allied Detachment (Imperial Fists CT)
- Captain/Pedro Kantor
- Scout Squad
- Venerable Dreadnought (Also important)
- Stormraven Gunship (very important)

Normally, I'd stick the Sternguard, Captain/Kantor and Venerable Dreadnought in the Stormraven and use it as a mobile reserve element. My question is, can it still be done? They all have the same CT, all painted the same (not that it matters) and can all fit. Is that still legal?

Also, seeing those two detachments, is that also Battleforged? Can I take an Allied Detachment alone, or do I need the CAD? I assumed not, but I'm second-guessing.

If they are the same Faction then the Allies rules, of which Battle Brothers is a part, are not relevant. The Allies rules only describe how units of different Factions interact with each other. Provided they are the same Faction, you may start the game with units from one detachment embarked upon Transport vehicles from another.

That is not a legal Battle-forged army. You may not take an Allied Detachment as the primary detachment, or an Allied Detachment with the same Faction as your primary detachment, unless in the case of Space Marines you are using different Chapter Tactics. You would need to take a CAD instead of the Allied Detachment, or would need a third detachment of a different Faction in this case, or you would need to take your 1st Company Task Force with different Chapter Tactics, and select your Warlord from there.

I'm assuming that they are the same Faction then? That's all fine, thank you!

So it's Unbound then? Or just plain illegal?

Well as you won't gain ANYTHING from the Allied Detachment, you can just drop that entirely and bring the units basically solo - that would make it an Unbound list consisting of exactly the same units.
Detachments lose all their Command Benefits, and that's basically all a Detachment brings to the table. So if you lose them, you can just drop the Detachment and make it a list of units chosen by you, and that's absolutely legal with no room for discussions - it's just an Unbound army then.

The list is just plain illegal. So to make it legal you could do the one of the following things:

1) Make it unbound and instead of using the Allied Detachment simply use the models from the AD (They would not be part of any detachment, your 1st Company remains intact).
2) Convert the Allied Detachment to a CAD which will require you to squeeze in a second troop choice.
3) Change the Chapter Tactics for one of the detachments (Warlord would need to be from the 1st Company).
4) Add a third detachment or formation (That isn't an AD) from a different Faction(or Chapter Tactic) which your Warlord choice must come from.

Oh - and you might want to redo your list anyway. Pedro Kantor only gives Objective Secure to Sternguard Veterans of his OWN detachment - I assume it was something you planned on using?

Kantor only really works well with the new Formations when using a Gladius or Sternhammer Strike Force, as the entire Strike Force - including the 1st Company Task Force Auxiliary Choice - will count as being "his detachment". And that sadly comes with the pretty nasty tax of a Battle Demi-Company or - even worse - a Centurion Siegebreaker Cohort.
