Returned to the game not long ago to see fantasy has been completely changed, I understand the rules have been simplified but would love some links/explanation to what has actually gone on. Has the game really changed that much are all races still used etc.
Thanks

A simple explanation:

Lorewise: The End Times, the Raknarok of Warhammer Fantasy, swept the entire setting, pitting heroes and armies against each other, as Chaos (or more appropriatly Archaeon) got uppity. First he sends a Nurgle Army at the Empire, which bangs it up, and after that, a undivided/khornish army of doom basically killed Empire, while the Skaven helped them. Talking Skaven, the Skaven was united by Thanquol (yeah I know), and they destroyed Lustria, where the Lizardmen had to bite their tails and flee to the star in Aztec Starships. Grimgor united most of the Orcs and raised the rest of the civilized world. Ulthuan sunk as the Dark and High Elves ended their civil war and Malektih got branded the new, original Phoenix King. Nagash takes all of Death, eats the gods of Death like Morr and becomes a demi-god of death. A lot of fun happened, basically.

Now, as Ulthuan sunk, the Winds of Magic began flowing through the world and was bound into a lot of different heroes. Grimgor got Beasts, Balthazar got Gold and so forth. Most importantly, Azyr AND Sigmar, as a spiritual god, got bounded in Karl Franz, who got turned into Sigmar at his death bed. This was what was supposed to save the world, but at the last minute, at a great ritual to save the world, Gelt got stabbed by Mannfred Von Carstein, who wanted to be the Incarnate of Death instead of Nagash (like he ever got a chance). At last, a gigantic rift was opened under Middenheim, and Sigmar fought Archaeon for Ghal Maraz as Chaos consumed the world.

But of course, everything is only just beginning, as they say.

In the unending void that Chaos left, Sigmar flies with the core of the old world, trying to find a place to create a new world. He finds a dragon who's apparently the one to recreate new worlds after Chaos wins over a setting (which Chaos always does). So Sigmar and the dragon creates a world of the Winds of Magic, an eldritch and weird world not unlike Outlands in WoW with somewhat random physics, where each Wind is it's own world with it's own "hat".

The rest of the factions begin coming back too, somewhat similar to their old selves. Nagash is still alive and is bound to the Death World, Tyrion (who was Incarnate of Light) is a god of Light and so forth, and everything is fine for a time. But then, Chaos. A blitzkrieg forces Sigmar and all of Order to retreat, and Azyr, the realm of Sigmar, is closed off while Chaos feths everything up. That is, until now: Now, Sigmar has finally got himself an army that can retake the Worlds, and he blitzes right back at Chaos, while trying to get his old friends, the other gods, to help him.

The lore is forthmoving, and each now book expands upon the lore and the story being told, unlike 40k, and the setting itself has a deciviely more noblebright and mystical feel to it (much of the world doesn't make sense, but isn't meant to).

As pointed out earlier, you asked this in another thread and it was answered at some length.

This thread therefore is a duplicate and I shall lock it.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.
