Hello all! I am from the USA specifically the Oklahoma Texas border are north of Amarillo south west of Guymon.
I picked up some betronians about 11 yrs ago and my work never allowed me to start putting models together let alone play . Here I am now with a new job that I finally have some free time and my attention has again turned to war gaming . I am looking at several different systems that interest me a great deal but i do not want to be limited by choosing a system that i can not find players to play . Right now I am looking at WH 40k orks or necrons, maybe infinity, KOW or numerous others . I think I will go with Orks but I figure this maybe a good place to look for some opinions.

Howdy! Welcome to Dakka.

To me, the two most important things to consider:

1) What's being played in your area? Wargaming is great but it's meaningless unless you have friends/opponents. I'm not sure I can say what the most-supported or -played system is overall. I can tell you that in my area, WH40k players have dwindled and most have turned to Warmachine/Hordes or Infinity. Or Bolt Action. Lots of Bolt Action in my neck of the woods. Best bet is to go to your local friendly local game store (FLGS) - or more than one, if you're lucky to have multiple nearby - and find out what's being played. Maybe go on a wargaming night if your FLGS has one, and hang out. Ask players if you can watch some games, see how they go.

2) What universe/models appeal to you most? You'll be spending a lot of time (and probably money) assembling and painting miniatures, and it would be a drag to commit to an aesthetic for which you don't even care.

Also, what style of game do you find most intriguing?

Skirmish? Infinity is your bag - arguably WarmaHordes fits this bill as well.
Lots of models on square bases, fielded as block units? Kings of War!
Moderate-to-large sized armies? Warhammer 40k.
Slimmed down, more streamlined rules with no points system for models? Age of Sigmar (although points are rumored to be on the way).

There are pros and cons to all of these systems, and they differ for everyone.

Welcome to Dakka, I've voted but I based on my bias opinion for an army I already have.

IceAngel wrote:I must say Knightley, I am very envious of your squiggle ability. I mean, if squiggles were a tactical squad, you'd be the sergeant. If squiggles were an HQ, you'd be the special character. If squiggles were a way of life, you'd be Doctor Phil...
