I have a question for you guys and gals. I just bought a pot of the Stirland Mud textured paint as an experiment on changing up my traditional sand basing method for something faster. Upon opening the pot, though, I see it has a disappointingly small volume in the pot- the actual product fills barely a third of the pot. I wonder if I got a bad pot, because I have never noticed such a thing before. Has anyone else had this problem recently?

I was just curious as I haven't experimented with many of the new styles of Geedub paint, and thought I'd try it out on a small project. I guess it wouldn't matter so much if it weren't for the price- and it obviously means I will make my own from now on, using my own sand and one of the companies that makes larger dropper bottles. Just thought I'd try something pre-produced as I am working with the modelling time constraints shared with raising a small toddler.

Barely a third sounds low, but having said that I popped open a bottle of liquid green stuff last night that I had barely used since I bought it 5 years ago. It had completely dried up and seemed to only fill up a third of the bottle too, and I had used it literally 2 or 3 times, and both of those were very small amounts.

It'd be easier to help if you posted pictures.

Wow. My GW paints haven't been filled to the brim but that's low.

Yeah, probably the price I pay for experimenting with spending money on a luxury item to save time instead of spending effort/time with my 20-year tried and true method. I'm used to regular paint being about 3/4 of a pot when new, but wondered if this is a recurring thing with the texture paints as this is my first one.

Ironically, the texture on the couple of bases I did with this new product is nearly identical to those of the old figures where I used the "special" sand I use - superfine 50-year dried stuff I harvested from under my folk's house back when I first started and lived at home and that was an easy (free!) source.

I think that was probably just a missed pot. Usually my pots of citadel paints at 3/4 full maybe a tad less. I have bought some of their shades before that have not been sealed correctly though or just underfilled...well it happened once

Yeah, my (multiple) pots of the same stuff have always been filled up to 'normal' GW levels. 1/3 of the pot (or even 1/2 of the pot) are super low and probably manufacturer defect.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I converted ~150 GW pots to droppers. None were under 2/3rds full (which is 12ml), quite a few were over that

Well, it should be 12+ml, if you have a spare pot you could fill it with 12ml water and see if the pot you have contains less than it should.

Otherwise just take it back and say it has less than you're accustomed to and hope they replace it and don't just say "well it's advertised as 12ml and there's normally significantly more than 12ml".

I have bought texture paints in the past that seemed to feel like they had less paint in them than normal. I never bothered trying to measure and see if it was actually below the 12ml though.

I've had several paints bought through GW and some through Army Painter that were completely dried out when I opened them. I guess it's just luck of the draw when buying paints.

Take it to a GW and shake your fist. They will give you a new pot, I'd presume.

The fill line should be slightly below where the colored border above the CITADEL logo is. Of course, this varies a little, since that label isn't in exactly the same place every time. But it's a few mm below the neckline, where the lowest part of the cap assembly is.

You can also open up a Dry paint to clearly see what the fill level should be. Since the paint is measured by volume (mL) whether it's dry, base, airbrush, etc. it should all go to the same level in the pot.
