At a Place, Making Dolls Great Again

Things get that small, yes for those who do not know, does anyone play anything this small, if so what do you do, paint wise?
How do you give the tiny infantry detail of any sort?

I've heard of people playing 3mm but not 2mm.
Putting detail on them wouldn't be that necessary.

I've got 2mm armies for New Kingdom Egyptian and generic Palestinian chariot enemies.

As with so many other projects I haven't finished them. They are going to be based for De Bellis Antiquitatis, using the base sizes for 15mm scale figures, so I get a real mass effect.

Here are a couple of blogs about painting 2mm figures.

Well because of the lack of space fair while back i started 2mm gaming but lately have been adding the 3mm acw to my collection I have extensive pike/shot, acw, franco prusian and WW2 armies. I have been tempted by the new 3mm ancient range of Magister Militum but have yet to take the plunge

As for gaming you can have excellent games on a small space - eg last weekend I was able to refight Shiloh on a 2x2 foot board , using Altar of freedom with the distances halved

As mentioned above filling a DBA element bases with 2mm minis does make it look like an army - more so than five or six, 15mm figures on the same base size

The key to remember is that you are not painting individuals but for the mass effect of the units. Generally it works to paint slightly lighter shades of the base colours and a light wash of brown or black helps definition - a dab or two of flesh or white here and there also draws the eye in.. The Iirregular miniatures site has great examples of what can be acheived and there is a 2mm wargaming face book page. Also try Tiny Toy Soldiers or Gild's page for ideas

Given this large forces are relatively cheap and quick to get onto the table If nothing else you can get two lfairly large armies together for less than the cost of a GW boxed set

Beyond historical, Brigade models produce some nice models for their Aeronef/Land Ironclads, as does Germy models - see Ground Zero games.

Aside from "normal " gaming 2mm lend themselves to a "kreigspiel" style of play for map based gaming.

There is something about a massed 2mm army that just seems to be right on the wargames tables, in some ways more realistic than the 15, 28mm figures represnying a brigade. For ww2, even more than their larger 6mm cousins , tank duels look more like "real" ranges

It is obviously a niche part of the wargamimg hobby but do not be put off - I remember people sneering at 15mm back in the day as to small to pain and god forbifd the looks when Heroics/Ros and the like produces 1/300th scale minis.

Irregular Minis sells two complete 2mm armies for about £15.

wow. I didn't even know such small scales really existed... And I thought painting 10mm infantry was a pain.

It's a pain if you try and do a 10mm figure like a 28mm figure, however if you do a 54mm figure like a 28mm figure it will come out looking crude and basic. Each scale has a different advantage.
