I'm considering purchasing an Ahriman model that's missing his staff.

What are alternative staff bits that I could use instead?

Depends on when you want your Ahriman from. If you're using the finecast model that's just missing his staff, you could always try sculpting a new one from greenstuff. Sorcerers of Tzeentch (both AoS and 40K) have pretty cool staves as well. If you wanted to do a little closer to Heresy Era Ahriman, he used whats called a heqa staff (as mentioned in A Thousand Sons, an excellent read). As a matter of fact, if memory serves, his 40K staff is just the mutated version of his original heqa staff. Originally it would've looked like the standard shepard's crook, as seen in everything hieroglyphic.
