UPDATE 5.31.16: Installed Age of Empires 2 from CD. Have not played it yet, but will soon.

Currently on PC
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Dark Crusade
Cthulhu saves the world
Age of Empires 2

Currently on Wishlist
Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine
Dungeons and Dragons: Daggerdale

Spoiler:
UPDATE 5.24.16 9:34AM: Having trouble playing Dawn of War Dark Crusade. It's nothing technical, the game runs smoothly, but I have trouble securing objectives and building things outside where I started at the beginning of the round. Can anyone help me with this?

EDIT 5.20.16 3:36PM: Thread title updated, will use this thread for games that I'm playing. Feel free to suggest other games, though.
Currently on PC
Cthulhu saves the world
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade

Original OP
Spoiler:
I recently got an ASUS X540L, and here are the specs I know of.

1 TB Hard Disk Drive
Windows 10 Home
4 GB RAM at 1600MHz
2.20GHz Intel Core i3

It's also got good Graphics, and runs fast.

Using those specs listed above, what games do you recommend? I have Steam installed. I want a few games that I don't actually have yet (Portal, Portal 2, Cthulu saves the world, and the Dawn of War series)

I'm specifically looking for strategy games.

You can also throw me some other games, and maybe I'll try them.

So, what does Dakka recommend?

Alright, I added $20 to my Steam Wallet from a Steam gift card, and downloaded Cthulhu saves the world. I'll let you know how it goes.

I played Cthulhu saves the world, and I love it! I ran into a lot of random encounters, and a fight between a hero, a cleric, and something else that took a while (enemy strength was at 260% before that encounter was over). I highly recommend this game to anyone.

-DoW obvious
-SPAZ (space pirates and zombies) both 1 and 2 (despite 2 being early access). 1 is more structured in terms of ship building, 2 is a lot more free form where parts snap together vs prebuilt ship frames
-Stardew valley if you ever liked the harvest moon/rune factory series (it's closer to rune factory).
-If you like competitive/twitch shooters, Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is ok but personally I like Team Fortress 2 more.
-Killing floor 1 or 2 if you need to scratch a horde shooter itch, with weapons that are fun to use (2 is MASSIVELY more demanding hardware wise however)
-FTL if you ever feel like smashing a keyboard/mouse (kidding, its a fun and hard roguelike).
-Dying light if you want to kill zombies and have a great parkour system (also somewhat demanding in terms of hardware)
-Angel's Fall First if you want a more tactical shooter (early access however, so it's not finished yet, but is a lot of fun and gets updated somewhat regularly)
-Deus Ex: Human Revolution if you want a shooter/RPG game with multiple ways to approach each level (lethal/non-lethal and loud/stealth in either combo)
-Dishonored if you want a good stealth game with superpowers (more or less).
-Just cause 2 and 3 were a lot of fun, especially with the air DLC in JC3 they added that gives your wingsuit a machinegun + thrusters.
-Xcom (I prefer xcom 2 due to steam workshop) for that turn based strategy itch
-Borderlands series obviously
-Binding of isaac: rebirth + the DLC afterbirth is an amazing roguelikes once you get the hang of it.

This is of course assuming you're looking for new/decent games and not halfway through something already

Depending on exactly what you mean by strategy games then I would suggest Crusader Kings 2. Its not a RTS game but its an accessible (relatively speaking...) grand strategy game.

The Wargame series is also good (although hard). Wargame:Airland Battle is currently on sale for £3.50.

For a more pure base building RTS game then Supreme Commander is worth a look and should be quite cheap as well. Sup Com 2 isn't very good though.

I am currently playing a lot of Stellaris but lots of things don't work and its riddled with bugs so it would be an idea to wait for it to be fixed.

The Steam summer sale starts next month so its best to wait until then before buying anything.

CS: GO is Counterstrike Global Offensive. An online FPS shooter based on teamwork and skill. It's cheap, especially during sales, but you need a microphone.

What faction are you playing? Some are easier to get out there and capture resource points due to cheaper troops and builders.

I find that a pretty good tactic is to max out on your builder units really early along with some cheap objective grabbers (scouts for space marines etc) and go and grab every resource point and relic and critical point you can get. Use some of your builders to get listening posts on those ASAP to increase your resource acquisition, maybe stick some turrets down, whilst also building power supplies and other important buildings in your main base as you get enough requisition/power.

The Laws of Thermodynamics:
1) You cannot win. 2) You cannot break even. 3) You cannot stop playing the game.

Personally, the free boy upgrade is fun, if not very effective. Just get a lot of boy huts, set them all to make sluggas, and set their target to the enemy base. It helps more for defense, because the enemy is constantly dealing with the horde, and you can build up turrets and vehicles behind it. Whenever I'm in a MP session with friends I'll just do this when I'm going to be AFK for awhile, because that helps my team enough to handle whatever the enemy throws at us.
