Using Bullgryn as an example, say you have a wall of those guys toddling forth, with a bunch of Scions behind them, and some git decides to point a flamethrower at them, can said flamethrower hurt the Scions behind the Bullgryn, even if they're in range?
I know the Bullgryn can get hurt, just wondering if their shields can form an impenetrable wall.

Do the Bullgyn have a rule that says they protect guys behind them? (I honestly don’t know)

The general rule is if you are under the template, you are getting hit. There are restrictions on how the template needs to be placed (maximize hits in the targeted unit) but once you do that, you can try to clip as many other guys as you can.

Hmm, I'm just taking a guess it's like trying to torch some guys behind a brick wall or something; not going to work.

I've no clue if the Bullgryns have a stated rule for it; I don't actually use Tempestus. I do know, however, that if two or more are in base contact with eachother, their armour save is improved by 1 point.

40k isn't a simulation of real life. It's an abstract game. You need rules to give you permission to do anything.

So unless ogryns have a rule that prevents templats from hurting models behinds them, then it still hurts models behind them.

Not only that. a flame thrower isnt like a torch at all.

its more of a stream that can ark over things.

To expand on what crownaxe is saying, the tabletop isn't always a 1 to 1 representation of how gak goes down.

Just because your models take wounds doesn't mean they're dead; They just can't effectively fight anymore, for example.

Ogryns walking into a wall of fire aren't going to keep shoulder to shoulder at all times with no gaps in between them. Realistically, they're moving along or running, then a stream of flame shows up, then they scream and run in circles, stream of flames continues, and dudes behind follow suit.

Flamers (and templates) generally ignore cover, such as that granted by intervening models, in this case Bullgryn. So the Scions would get barbecued.
