Its been about 3 years or so since I've been involved with anything miniatures. For the icons on the non-forgeworld shoulders, I have access to a printer that cuts out vinyl stickers. I didnt think it would be able to cut out something so small but They came out pretty well. All I had to do was just use a little 'ardcoat to make sure they stuck on fully. Im pretty satisfied with the end result.

VERY nice looking Raven Guard!

I especially like the Captain/Master. Having built my own Plastic Captain Character kitbash recently, I love seeing people with custom/unique models.

Very fluffy choice using the Lightning Claws, and your decal work is very very clean and sharp as well. May I ask, 5th Company? (Black right shoulder pad rims = 5th Co. in Raven Guard, right?)

My reason for asking is I am building the 5th Battle Company for my Blood Angels. Just curious.

Would love to see more of your stuff. I have a soft spot for Raven Guard, being the other 'Jump Assault' oriented army on the Imperial side, along with Blood Angels.

Keep up the great work, and do please keep sharing your stuff as you complete it. Take it easy.

Thanks for the input! When painting them I wanted to stick to the fluff but I don't really like the shoulder trims so i just decided to go with all black because to me it just looks cleaner. I have a few other models painted and some stuff that need i need to strip some paint off of. I still need to get some larger bases in before they'll be finished though.

Oh yes, I'm in the process of rebuilding my Blood Angels and the 32mm bases are so much nicer to work with.

I totally understand not wanting to paint the trims a different color. That's why I would call them 5th Company and go with them being codex compliant with left shoulder pad trim color being black, conveniently matching their armor. Lets them look cleaner and all of your non-veterans already have it. Heck even the 'rim' of your Lighting Claw Captain's right shoulder (the wings) are black.

Also, I totally understand. I'm trying to work on some named characters (one of which is still 'in the bath' so to speak) alongside finishing a 5 man tactical squads and then a Librarian Dreadnought as well.

Keep at it and share your stuff as you finish it up. I'm looking forward to seeing it. If you're interested in my Bood Angels also, feel free to check out my Gallery.

Take it easy for now.

yeah I hated how the marines never fit on their old bases. The 32s make them look so much better and the new kit has a lot more movement. I've been looking at adding a small blood angels just so i can model a command squad with jump packs. I have a kitbashed librarian made and an apothecary as well painted. i'm still debating on what i should do for their bases. I have enough marines to round the two squads to 10 and rhinos as well. I'm looking at getting a dreadnought and predator to bring the force to 1000 points. Along side this i'm working on a commission for my father since he wanted some tyranids.

This is really the first time i've done space marines as well. I made a fairly large deathwing force when DV came out but I've never gone into the tactical side of them.

Great work! My only crit would be all the bone and parchment looks very brown. Why not lighten it all with Screaming Skull? Drybrushing it would be a quick method to highlight it.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Yup, I would agree on adding another highlight to the bone.

Nice work so far, though.

maybe something like this? looks subtle enough to differentiate between the cloth and the parchment

I agree with Bottle that the bone & parchment could do with some light-colored highlights, they seem a little too brown but also a little flat without the highlights.

Otherwise I really like them!

I've always liked the Raven Guard for their 'minimalist' design. other chapters can start to look busy with so many colors, there is a certain elegance that comes with a more spartan color palette. I think you've achieved it quite nicely!

I would get some lighter brown or cream/off white and hit the skull and also the parchment with that color, then go in with a Sepia Wash (Seraphim Sepia is the GW color for it) and let that go into the recesses to shade it. That's what I do for my Purity Seals and parchment and it comes out looking like this:

Spoiler:

The parchment hanging from the waist in that image was actually achieved by painting Deneb Stone over the parchment, hitting it with the old Ogryn Flesh wash, then highlighting with another edge of Deneb Stone and finishing it up with a very slightly thinned down Seraphim Sepia wash over the top of that.

For Purity Seals, I once again use Deneb Stone and then just go over them with Seraphim Sepia. If need-be I will do some very fine edge highlighting with more Deneb Stone. Here's an example of what that looks like once finished:

Spoiler:

Hopefully that helps with the visuals. Take it easy for now and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Another attempt at the parchment. Went over it with some menoth white highlight to try and lighten em up. I have an art pen so i may try adding some black lines on a test piece to see how that comes out to maybe add some more depth but the last time i attempted it it came out janky.
I went into several kits to make this guy. The head and part of the staff are from the DW knight box, legs and powerpack from the sternguard, grey knight for part of the torso with sanguinary guard for the right shoulder, chestplate and i shaved the gun off of the left arm

Looking good! The whites are spot on and very bright, and as always your detailing is sharp. The decal work is also on point as well. Solid Job!

How do you plan on kitting out our Command Squad? Just curious on that end.

Also, touching back on your librarian, the scrolls hanging from the left leg could use some paint on the middle sections, the rolled up parchment paper section I mean. With them being black, they look almost unfinished compared to the rest of the mini. A coat of Deneb Stone (or whatever off-white color you prefer) and a Seraphim Sepia wash would help that detail pop a bit more I think.

Up to you of course, just noticed it and thought I'd mention it in passing.

Keep up the great work & I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your command squad come together.

Take it easy for now.
