The club is looking at starting armada, and being impatient, we really don't want to start off with just a starter and build up. But then again, we don't want to just waste money on irrelevant expansions.

Since this game has to be bought as balanced sides, what do you think/suggest should be bought alongside the starter to provide balanced fleets and ease of play? We should be looking at a balance of about £200 for purchase.

Cheers

Andrew

This Is Where the Fish Lives

Well, just about every expansion is worth buying. I haven't played much recently, but the Nebulon-B was considered the weakest ship in the game just because it's semi-powerful front arc doesn't jive with the rest of the Rebels (who prefer broadside attacks). This will change with Wave 4, but that's a little ways out yet.

The best thing to do is look to see what builds are popular right now and go from there. You'll definitely be picking up at least one of each expansion though.

This is right on.
It's just like Xwing; you'll want some of the upgrade cards that are found only in individual ship packs.

California

Aside from the starter contents, the Rebels really need the Mon Cal ships and the Mk II assault frigates, as the base ships from the core require a lot of finesse (which is harder to master right at the Jump) to really operate well.

Imperials are all about Forward firing arcs, and overwhelming firepower.

Currently, Rebels are all about moving and shooting, with most of their firepower focused on the side arcs.

Make sure everyone gets a chance to play both sides, because until you try them both, you don't really appreciate the game as much, and it doesn't feel as balanced if the Home One expansion and the Mk II are left out.

Thank you all for your advice, now I've got to get approval from the rest of the club.
