You'll need to get to Nottingham, which is about two hours on the train from London (train tickets run from thirty to sixty quid/forty five to ninety dollars depending on how/where you buy). Once you get to Nottingham, Warhammer World is about a half an hour walk, or an eight minute taxi ride.

2 do they have pick up games or just pre planned

As far as I'm aware, you can walk in and take a table to play on, assuming no-one is using it. I know a number of dakkaites live locally there, you should try contacting them if you want a game.

3 how much if food run in the UK I been told its pricey

Depends. Last time I was there, Warhammer World was slightly pricey than a wetherspoons, so assuming it's roughly still the same still (it's been a few years), you're looking at about fifteen bucks a head for lunch. If you want a pint in Bugmans afterwards though, you'll need more, naturally.

4 do you need to worry about paperwork to go to Scotland or Northern Ireland

No. There's no border controls, we're all part of the same country. It's more hassle to move between states in the US than it is to go to say, Wales from England!

5 last but not least about what time of year do you guys get snow

Eh. Usually about January/February. You won't see it really if you stay in London though, odds are, the heat cloud keeps the worst of it off in most cases. It's only once you hit the midlands it starts getting more regular.

Any more questions, feel free to ask or drop me a PM!

As Ketara says, train is probably the way to go. Train prices and times are available from http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

From the train station you can get a tram now. http://warhammerworld.games-workshop.com/visitor-information/directions/

Flying is not something people normally do in the UK, unless you are going to Ireland. Some people might fly from London to Scotland, but it is normally cheaper and only a little longer to drive or take the train most places.

2 do they have pick up games or just pre planned

People don't tend to do pick up games, except on a gaming night. You don't have to book a table, although it can get busy when there is an event or during school holidays.

3 how much if food run in the UK I been told its pricey

Compared to the US, yes. Don't forget though that we don't tip many places (only normally where someone takes your order at the table. A good guide is if they ask you how your food is mid meal then tip), and those that do the normal tip is around 10%, so less than the US.

4 do you need to worry about paperwork to go to Scotland or Northern Ireland

Nope.

5 last but not least about what time of year do you guys get snow

You are unlikely to see snow even in the middle of winter, you would be very unlucky to have snow affect your trip, unless you were doing something like going to the Highlands of Scotland in Mid January.

Thanks for any information you can give figure this will be a one time thing so hope to plain as much as I can

If you are going to warhammer world I would suggest spending some time in Nottingham. Lots of interesting stuff to see, especially the caves and the castle. Also go for a drink at the Ye olde trip to Jerusalem. One of the oldest pubs in the UK https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ye_Olde_Trip_to_Jerusalem

My other recommendation would be to not spend your holiday playing warhammer. There is so much else to see and do, but if you really must I would suggest booking a hotel, spend the day seeing Nottingham and go to warhammer world in the evening.

We include tax in the menu price as well. There's none of that American meal mathematics, where you have to mentally add the cost of the meal, plus tip, plus sales tax. Waiters are paid an appropriate basic wage like any other similar job (unlike the US), so you can walk in, order a meal, eat meal, pay the sticker price, and walk out with no problems or resentment. If the menu says the meal is £7.80, the meal is £7.80.

Here is a most valuable and interesting guide to visiting the pub.

Written in 1996, the main things that have changed are that you can now nearly always pay by card rather than cash, and also that legal opening hours are no longer so restricted.

Depending on how long you're over here for, there's a few places I'd definitely recommend.

London- Natural History museum if you're into biology/zoology/palaeontology, National Gallery if you're an art fan, The British Museum for a huge range of historical artefacts and exhibitions, Science Museum if you're into that (they've got stuff covering the full spectrum of scientific fields, very accessible even to the casual scientist).

Northern England- Royal Armouries in Leeds (you'll need a full day, but it's one of the best museums in the country for military history, literally thousands of exhibits and artefacts), Imperial War Museum North in Manchester (you can do this in less than two hours, but there's some good stuff there), various Roman sites along Hadrian's Wall (there's plenty, I can't recall the names off the top of my head though).

Ok, long as you can get to Nottingham. I know the city, not earhammer world.

Basically the train station and tram are linked . You can get in via train and thrn a tram to the gw hq. Taxi too is a possibility. Tons near the station.

Simple. Long as you can get there.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

If you go to Warhammer World, you can ring up beforehand and book one of the feature tables - fun to play on, and free to do. As for getting pickup games, I'm not sure on that.

Bugman's Bar is just off of the main gaming hall, if you get peckish, buy something from there. I'm rather a fan of their stuff, and it's not horrendously expensive, though a little more than Spoons.

Otherwise, your best bet for travel is getting the train into Nottingham, and catching the tram to Gregory Street (or something like that)

Are trains that dependable to use in the UK I never thought about using one to get around

UK trains are probably the least dependable of our public transport, but they're unfortunately often the most useful--as well as being the most expensive. When it comes to train times, aim to get there 5-10 minutes before the listed time, but expect to be waiting 5-10 minutes later than the listed time.

Try and avoid rush hour times if at all possible, and probably try and avoid an hour/half an hour or so either side of them, too. Rush hour trains are not pleasant, especially on a longer journey. Watch out for any local football matches, too, as they also tend to clog the trains. Like with rush hours, try and leave a decent amount of buffer time before kick off, and after full time.

If you do choose to ever use a taxi, bear in mind that the only--I believe--taxis you can legally flag down are hackney ('black', although a lot are white or wrapped in advertising) cabs; all others are private hire vehicles you need to call to arrange a pick up.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

And most cars in the UK are manual, that is to say stick shift. Make sure you ask for an automatic if you are unsure about driving stick. Plus our motorway (highway) speed limit is 70mph with some users going up to 100.
Petrol (gas) is expensive. currently it's around £1.08 per litre (around £4 per us gallon). It's all fill up yourself here too.
Make sure you don't get petrol mixed up with diesel or visa versa. Hire cars are mostly diesel I think.
A small diesel car should achieve 50 miles per gallon.

Also be prepared for our use of both metric & imperial units in the same sentence!!

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Never done left handed driving but roundabouts are all the rage in my area for some strange reason
