Im running a Tau army and would like to add an allied detachment to gain some close combat capabilites. Any suggestions what to use for that? I really do prefer someones that my Taus can accept to line up with, like maybe Necrons or Eldar. No chaos. Suggestions?

Culexus are desperate allies, kroot are in the same codex. If neither of those would help, how about some orks?

Eldar and Necrons both have dedicated CC units. With Necrons, for example, you can take a Canoptek Harvest instead of an allied detachment, and mow stuff down with wraiths.

This may or may not be more efficient than just shooting stuff, but it does enable Assault-oriented objectives and the bonus points on Tactical Supremacy objectives.

Other things you can do include equipping a Commander with Fusion Blades from the Farsight supplement, allying with Harlequins, or taking Farsight himself. I once saw a battle report where his entire squad got eaten by some Tyranid monstrosity, and then he basically leaped into the air and drove his sword right through its skull.

At any rate, maybe try optimizing for models you like the looks of, first and foremost?

I plan to use a Canoptek Harvest as my melee problem solver.

Voted Astra Militarum for a chance for them to get nerfed instead of my own army.
