Hi dakka, I am looking to purchase 3 tau gun rigs to add to my Tau collection because they look fun to use. can anyone tell me how many fire warrior equivalent models fit on the rig?

if anyone has any tips as to how best to use the Gunfort I would appreciate it as I am looking to make a few lists, I have a few ideas but some inspiration would be great. I posted pics. the gunrig is the same size as the circular thingy on the shieldline. take a look for yourself. How many infantry would fit in the footprint of a riptide?

and lastly, just don't use darkstrider with it.

I was thinking of using cadre fireblades to man the guns as they seem the best option with the split fire and high BS while still buffing the unit of fire warriors he is with. I was thinking of trying dark strider as well, mainly to see someone face when I instant kill their Riptide or daemon prince.

Why not? He's the best guy to put there!

Fill them with fire warriors and go to ground every time someone attacks you. Be sure to have Interceptor around to kill deep striking flamers and deal with any ignores cover ASAP.

The only problems I can see with dark strider is that any unit he joins would have to shoot the same target. making a very expensive combination of gun rig, dark strider and a unit which basically would be wounds for dark strider. Still sounds like a fun thing to try keeping in mind this isn't meant to be super competitive but I always try to build lists which can hold their own.

If I was to do as you mentioned and go to ground if I get shot at it would mean dark strider would have to snap shoot the gun rig wouldn't it just to make sure I under stand as I have never used a fortification before other than the aegis line. As for interceptor trying to stay away from Riptides for the list so i will be at the mercy of deep striking flamers though most people don't run flamers in units deep striking all seems to grav or plasmas.

Crisis/Broadsides can take interceptor as well (Ghostkeels too!)

Also, yes, GtG with Darkstrider's unit isn't ideal. That one could stick behind impassable terrain and move to shoot or field something more menancing to avoid fire...

Think I'm going to be picking up a couple of these myself at the end of the week, only just saw how cheap they are for what they are...

Was considering getting 2 gun towers and a drone port, has anyone had much success with a cadre fireblade/strike team combo with the droneport? Seems like it could be a nasty little anti infantry firebase for gunline Tau set ups...

I'm thinking of using the below:

Gun Rig A - 5 x Pathfinder w/ Markerlight
Gun Rig B - 5 x Pathfinder w/ Markerlight
Drone Port - 12 x Firewarrior w/ Pulse Rifle, Cadre Fireblade, 4 x Marker Drone


The main question is would all of the FW's fit in the drone port? does anyone have any rough estimates of how many each can fit?

I think i saw somewhere that you can fit 9 models in the gunrig/droneport plus a few more on the steps. I'm not 100% on how fortifications work when building lists correct me if I'm wrong to take 2 gunrigs and a drone port to keep the list bound would you need to take 3 CAD's? but if I take 3 gunrigs as a gunfort it will fit in 1 CAD.

I miss having str 10 broadsides so 3 tl str 10 shots with the option to wreck pretty much any big tank with 3 armor bane shots sounds good.
