I have made a mess of some miniatures with enamel paint (essentially I put too much on and the details have been obscured). I wanted to start over and strip the paint off. My usual technique of soaking them in methylated spirits does not appear to work too well on this type of paint.

I had read about using a lye (sodium hydroxide) based solution to strip paint (http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/164867-faq-removing-paint-paint-stripping/)

I was wondering if anyone had had any success with this with plastic miniatures and enamel (rather than acrylic) paint? Would it also work on finecast miniatures?

Try and get somebody from the UK to ship you some Biostrip20. It'll eat the enamel paint.


You could also try isopropyl alcohol - just pick a tub off the shelf in Bunnings.

I wouldn't use caustic soda on plastics (the common name for sodium hydroxide) - it usually doesn't tend to go well for them.

[Dad was an electroplater, he used that stuff at work, alongside various acids and other solutions - all toxic. ]
