I recently picked up some SW and have been intrigued by the Wyrdstorm Brotherhood from Curse of the Wulfen, but I haven't had enough time to thoroughly test them. I should be able to get a couple games in on Thursday or Friday this week, so here's a few questions:

-How many Rune Priests, and at what ML?
The extra shots are nice but there has to be some point of overkill/diminishing return, me and math don't get along though.

-What's the best squad to attach them to?
The obvious choice seems like TWC, but I feel like there's a problem with target priority - what I want to shoot with Living Lightning isn't always what I want to assault with the TWC. Added force weapons are though. Another thought was to stick them with the Heralds of the Great Wolf formation along with a WGBL or two (or hell, four) for the -1BS and FNP shenanigans.

-Aside from Tempestas powers for LL, is it worth rolling on any of the new SM tables? I haven't taken a long look at the new powers yet...

-[Edit] Also, if you don't roll on the Tempestas discipline at all you can still manifest The Living Storm, right?

If anyone has tips, formation builds, or lists any help would be appreciated!

LL is not done in the Shooting phase, so you can charge a different unit. But if you include a Runepriest in your TWCs, you lose Fleet so I won't recommend it.

The prerequisite to cast Living Storm is being part of the Wyrdstorm Brotherhood, not having other Tempestas powers, so you should be fine.

The problem is that the bonus of harnessing on 3+ only counts for Tempestas, so you lose a big benefit of the formation when you select different schools. On the other hand, Tempestas is not a very good school...
I always liked Biomancy.
The new schools are solid but IMHO no auto take

I like the idea of 2 ML1 priests and 1 ML2 priest. The ML1 Priests are used as batteries and occasionally try casting living lightning with spare warp dice.

I'd add them to MSU Grey Hunters. This could be really interesting in the Blackmanes Legendary Great Company.

Another option, outside of the Blackmanes, is a Rhino rush. This could work well with the Ironwolves since they get a 12" disembark.

Finally, put them on bikes and attach them to bike squads. They could potentially "jump shoot jump" like Eldar jetbikes since their "shooting" occurs in the psychic phase and they could turbo boost in the shooting phase. Honestly this doesn't appeal to me since it's only one model shooting.

Can you throw them on Thunderwolves? There's really no other option when those are available.

Unfortunately you can't take them on Thunderwolves :( it's bikes or jump packs.

I tried a list tonight with an ML2 priest that had the helm of durfast and 2 more ML1 priests all in rhinos with grey hunters. Rest of the list was the deathpack formation, a squad of Wulfen with attached IP and cyberwolves (this squad has been doing WORK for me), berserker dread in drop pod, and some long fangs. Played against a Necron Decurion list and went first.

Got a turn 1 charge from my TWC with the Wulfen and formation buffs, dropped the dread in the middle as a distraction carnifex for the Wulfen, and had some good luck winning combats on his turn and charging again on mine for the rest of the game.

The priests were great for support fire, the Living Storm chewed through a ghost ark, some tomb blades, and some warriors. The other two priests took out some stragglers with Living Lightning as well.

I'll have to check out the blackmanes and ironwolves and see what I can come up with.

Thanks for the ideas everyone!

Agreed:

• ML2 Rune Priest on bike w/ Helm of Durfast - autoinclude.

Ignore cover w/ reroll misses... amazing, even against flyers.
New FAQ wont let us cast the same power from a unit twice, so that's a limiter on a Star for LL but the formation power is unique/different from LL in our codex. ML2 allows you to cast both from your Helm model.

• Move cast boost back into cover, NICE!

• Shroud via #1 from tempastus is handy for bikes, 2+ Jink.

• I have run Pod + RP and it's good. And fun. Lots. However, killpoint missions SUFFER for it, and most competitive missions involve KP's...

• I *do* run RP (lvl1) with each of 2 BC units in the freebie Razorbacks from Iron Wolves. Handy, cheap, powerful. Force weapons OP.

• in my list building, which I enjoy doing, I've found them to be a filler option - that we can field 5. Unnecessary to do more than 3 IMO but when 60/80 points is spare and you wanna fill it up effectively, these guys are potent.

I have tallied *many* a kills via Force from them wielding axes and a cheap fodder retinue, 250pt models go down like grots.

Btw, I've tried going 5 for squeezing out them extra dice towards the d6 shots... it isn't worth pressing towards. Lol too funny how often my 3d6 scores a dozen+ hits whereas my 5d6 scores 7 lol.
