Hi, i want to build my start collection space wolves together, i cant decide which weapon melta or plasma-gun?
Play as 5 with 1 melta or at 10 with 2?

I didn´t played an 7.edition game yet, but some people said it´s the melta-edition?
I ordered 5 melta(magma-rifle) from Kromlech.

Thx

I'd say plasma gun. Melta's not very good in 7th in general, and plasma matches the boltguns better.

I agree with this. Melta's are good in squads specialized in tank hunting. Grey Hunters in general are much better infantry hunters, so I think flamers and plasma guns are both better placed here usually. My rule of thumb is to try and put flamers in Drop Pods and Plasma Guns into Rhinos.

I thought the rule of thumb was put everything in drop pods. I agree with plasma. Wolf guard make better tank hunters.

4 terminators with free stormshields and combi-meltas, with a chainfist thrown in there if you have the free points, in a pod are a fantastic unit.

They can pop a tank, then assault and assault a unit to hold them up until the end of the game. Or bring that chain fist out to cut through another tank.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

The Death Pack in particular is helpful for Plasma, with rerolling 1's.

I've found its so much easy to assault with thunderhammers/fists vs vehicles - no cover saves, no jinking, striking rear armour, multiple attacks - than a single melta shot. You'll be in assault range, anyways.

Plasma is the solution for eldar/etc characters via their S7 on their T3 models.

AP 2 S7 is perfect versus monstrous creatures. Also, great versus transports.

It's possible to put 7 plasma shots at 12" range from that sole GH squad (tho a bit pricey on points).

Even if it's not Grey Hunters, Plasma is usually better.

Exception might, might be BA Assault Marines but that's only because they can put out 4 Melta shots (or 6 plasma shots) so you're more likely to wreck vehicles. But I normally stick to Plasma for them in Rhinos. If I take Melta, it's usually MM because 12" is more reliable.

Plasma Rifle inside a Rhino, so the two plasma shots get through the Access Points, then having them keep within 12" of a mounted Lord, not bad... not bad...
