Freezing to death outside the Fang

For this list I have built it around the VIth legion's tendacy to leave nothing but slaughter and ruin in their wake (a la Shrike, the Quietude home world and Prospero) I've opted to make the list mostly mechanized as opposed to drop assault as I wanted to bring along a superheavy or two to reinforce the destructive power and I want the army to accompany them rather than arrive later and join up with the superheavies (there is also no way to bring in 20 man tac squads from off the board unless you use a storm eagle which a) are expensive, even more so as I would need 2 b) hell to put together and c) not particularly fluffy) I'm hoping that the Vlka Fenryka will get several RoW's in book 7 to represent the different companies as each used quite different tactics, similar to how they do in 40k as if that is the case we may get one for tank lists.
I'm using Pride of The legion for my RoW as the others in LACAL hinder me rather than help me and it also lets me take an extra vet tac squad, techmarine and contemptor, my Legion USR is furious charge as it fits the Rout pretty well.
I know the cerberus is not one of the best cheaper LoWs but I love the model and it will with any luck, disable other superheavies that will obliterate my sqauds such as typhons and other blast based superheavies.
I'm not going for min-max in this list, just fluff, so I'm not looking for ways to improve the list.
if any of the points costs seem off please let me know as I'd hate to be over/undercosted.

I think this would be such a cool list to face! My DG would be trying desperately to drown your infantry in phosphex before your mech units hit my lines, all the while hoping that my Leviathan could get into combat with something worthwhile before your Cerebus reduced it to burning slag.

I love infantry heavy lists in HH, I think they look great on the tabletop and really fit the theme of Space Wolves. If you ever get it finished post pictures!

I think it's okay. not enough infantry to really deal with an infantry heavy list, and you're really relying on your Cerberus doing most of the work.
book 7 will probably give 2 RoWs like the rest of the legions, as well as probably 3-4 special units + characters.

As for the list itself: Vet. tactical squads tend to flounder when you expect them to be your main line infantry: they function best as support, not core. As well as this, the fact that your largest squad is only 10 men means that they simply lack the punch to deal with larger squads, and will drop rather quickly under the firepower of 30k, same goes for the rhinos. it looks like those are 20-man tactical squads, but I cant be sure with how you wrote your list . Honestly, don't think you need a RoW (since this one WILL punish you for loosing your flimsy vet. tactical squads and 5-man terminator squad.

As for the fluff: I don't think heavily mechanized vets. really 'epitomizes' the fluffy view of the wolves :(. While you could get away with lots of 10-man squads, but fluff wise, they probably fielded a lot more bolt pistol+CCW larger tactical squads, supported by drop pods + the occasional super heavy. Remember: Wolves were much, MUCH more than mindless, mess-making, vikings: They were cunning, clever, and knew how to fight is more ways than 'stereotypical barbarian' (exemplared by their fight with the world eaters)

I also wouldn't worry about the super heavy tank: focus more on your primarch + building a fluffy list, or one of the faster LoWs unless your going tank company or an intentionally slow group of space wolves.

As for how I would deal with this with my DG:
1) the cerberus is a threat, but decent players won't worry as much about killing it: I'd probably throw my rapiers + leviathan at it, Maybe mortarion or a p. fist terminator squad if there's no closer threats.
2) You don't have enough 'quick' infantry to be a real threat with them: i.e. toss my larger squads (or my terminators) at the vets and wipe them pretty quick (again: 10-man squads are not all to much when they are a core idea to your army)
3) As for dealing with your larger squads: you didn't give them extra close combat weapons, so I would probably just throw my tactical squads at them
4) at this point level, I stick with Mortarion still, so in all truth: he'd probably either work on the tank, or just melt any infantry who come within 20-30" of his general area.

Sorry if this came off as overly critical, trying to both 1) contain my TS rage at you, Team-killing furry ; and 2) I really, REALLY, think people put to much value into the mediocher vet. tactical squads (can be good as support, not as core infantry)

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Korphaeron, a few pics are up on my blog which you can find in my sig.

Oops those tac squads are 20 man squads, I must have forgotten to type that in yesterday.
Brennonjw, the vindicators are there to deal with infantry and protect the Cerberus, the vet tacs are there to clean up anything the vindicatorS leave behind. I had thought about giving the tac squads cc weapons, however that would cost and extra 40pts per squad which is a lot of points especially as troops tend to die quite quickly.
The list is based upon the space wolves already being on the ground rather than in the early phases of a planetary assault. I will plan
get Russ when he comes out (he is why I started a 30k army after all) so he will be there for melting units (alongside whatever special unit the wolves get). The list is also designed to be mobile but not fast (from what I remember from prospero burns and a thousand sons they weren't a fast moving legion like the scars, ba and Raven guard but tend to use a variety of tactics depending on the company) I know they aren't mindless killers although whatever they attack tends to end up being completely flattened in the murder-make as the rout tend to get quite caught up in it (this is what caused friction between the ts and sw on the shrike campaign and also with the wolves and the 40th expeditionary fleet, who absolutely hated the wolves) to quote wolverine "I'm good at what I do, but what I do ain't nice" which sums up the rout perfectly
I will also add that this list is the max I can currently field but will probably not be what I field all the time as 3000+ points would take the best part of a day to play.
