Hello All
New to WARHAMMER and I am looking forward to opening with a competitive Eldar Army, all Formations. This is what I have come up with so far. I would appreciate your thoughts and opinions.

-1x Vyper w/ twinlinked Shurican Cannons
-Warlock with Withholder
-4x Windriders w/Shurican Cannon
-2x3 Windriders w/twin linked Shurican catapults

Formation 3: 1035 pts
Wraith Host
-Wraith Lord w/ Bright Lance, Eldar Missle Launcher, 2x Shurican catapults.
-1x Spiritseer
-1x wraithknight W/ starcannon, 2x heavy Wraith Cannons

First, welcome to Dakka.

No transports? With the detachment, you are going to be running fast, but still open to return fire. The fire dragons are going to feel that the most.

You have a number of things considered non-competitive in your list. Shining Spears, Wraith Lord. Now the lord is a tax for the wraith host, but you might want to swap the spears for more spiders.

What you have should be perfectly playable. How competitive depends a lot on your local meta.

Hey Mate, cheers for the advice,

I made some amendments, what do you think?

- Removed Wind Rider Host
- changed Aspect Host to 1 x 5 fire Dragons with Exarch
& 2x 4 Warp Spiders with Exarch.
- Added dedicated transport (Wave Serpent) for fire Dragons and Wraithguard units. 4 in total.

Cheers for your help so far,

Opinion?

That should work.

I can’t say I’m an Eldar expert, particularly when it comes to being competitive. Most of my hands-on experience is in an escalation league in a very casual FLGS.

One advantage keeping the Windriders in was that it let you qualify for the Eldar big detachment. This, IIRC, gives you some nice perks.

Not that Eldar need extra perks to be competitive. But it’s there.

Are these actually the models you own?

1. I don't recommend bothering with a transport. FireDs *do* need a ride, but any vehicle where their guns are needed are going to come to you, that is, Imperial Knights. Your WK can handle an ImpKnight, properly used.
2. As Nevelon said, the Shining Spears ought to go. Simply run them as Scatbikes instead.
3. With only 5, be very careful with them.

Again, Nevelon is right. To add, you ought to toss the Vyper, abandon the WindRider Host formation, and run a CAD and they will all have ObSec, often a game winning mechanic.

In objective missions, go second, using the jetbikes to win the last turn (a gamble on Turn 5).

Under the CAD, your WG can just be Elite Choices, but upgrade them to having D-scythes, far deadlier. Toss the WraithLord, as Nevelon said; it's just not the cool monster the Wraith Knight is for nearly twice the points.

Find out if Toe-In cover exists in your local meta. If not, your WK might want to wield a Shimmer Shield instead of the D-cans.

With the W-Lord out, (maybe Spiritseer too), you can afford the ScatLas upgrades.

The perks, a full 6" Battle Focus, is not as good as having ObSec bikes, IMHO.

I am a competitive eldar player (regular tourney attendee for 4+ years) , piloting elves for several years, and the last 3 codexes.

Speed and firepower are king.

Go for a windrider hosts with scatbikes. if you want to add warlocks with spears. Extra warp points are nice if you want to do a divination farseer or standard eldar spells. If you like pskic phase you can add more psychic by adding more warlocks to your seer council.
Add a crimson hunter detachment to clear the skies.
If you are sweating the 3+ reserve roll add an autarch on a bike.

Really fead the Runes if Fate and Divination closely. You may want to have another farseer when you get done reading them. Also don't forget the Runes of Battle that your warlocks can cast. Also if you feel lucky look over telepathy.

in combination think about the potential of 4 farseers and 10 warlocks all with spears under prescience, invisibility, and fortune casting reveal and misfortune on anything you want dead. If you don't get the trifecta you can always guide a squadron of 3 vypers with scartlasers and shuricannons for 21 S6 shots that are all twin linked. Have fun.
