Hi all,

I need to make a purchase either way today to get Salamanders shoulder pads, as I've finally decided to include Salamanders Iconography on my army.. Although I really like Salamanders Fluff, I am not a huge fan of scales and heads all over the place, so I'm very much limiting the ammount of salamanders trinkets (leave that to the wolves) - I'm also considering using alternative models for the Pyroclasts (I would still use their weapon, but use regular MKIV armour possibly) and Firedrakes (considering using regular Cataphractii with the Tartaros TH/SS combination, though I'm still doing test models of this... with Tartaros armour, as that's all I have available right now... BUT ANYWAY

I'm making a small order, and was interested in getting some opinions on some of the choices I'm hoping to make, in regards to the Nuncio-Vox and Sergeant for both the DG and S lists, to differentiate each type of squad nicely.

------------------------------

So the basic design of the tactical squads will be as follows:

Death Guard
MkIV armour (I really dislike the legs of MkIII armour unfortunately)
DG heads
DG torso
DG left shoulder pads
Phobos bolters

Salamanders
MkIV armour
MkIV heads
MkIV torso
Salamanders left shoulder pads
Tigrus Bolters

------------------------------

The first choice I'm pondering quite a bit is the heads. I know I'll want DG heads on the DG units and MkIV heads on the Salamanders units, but for the Sergeants. The Command Upgrade set has a really nice MkIV head, so I'm just stuck on choosing the head for the DG. I'm thinking of their using the Legion Champion head, which has a nice style, or alternatively, chopping off the top of the MkIV head and attaching it to a DG one, which, after doing a little photo editing... I really like! What do you guys think works better?

I'm also considering using MkIV shoulderpads on all of the squad, and using MkII pads on the Sergeant, as I feel like it gives him a little more flare, without it being extreme, as in the MkIII variant. I've seen this done a few times and I really like it... It also gives the option of still using MkIII armour variants down the road, if I wish to do veteran squads, or something similar, so I can still give tha unit sergeant the MkII pads.

------------------------------

For the backpacks on the Vox, I have a similar dilemma. While the Command set provides a really nice MkIV backpack... I do like the MkIII backpack from that other set also, though throwing in a MkIII backpack may look very out of place in a full 10/20 man unit if he's the only one packing... What do you guys think?

------------------------------

Also for the Vexilla, I'm probably going to mount some etched brass in the recess circle at the top, it really seems like it's made to do that. Unfortunately the DG symbols spikes don't fit, even at the smallest size the circle takes the entire available space, so it will just appear to be a skull... Alternatively I could try and get some roman numerals, and put the legion number in there... Thoughts? Does anyone know of anywhere that actually does numerals that small?

I really like to plan stuff out well in advance, it really gives me purpose moving forward with the army, and it's nice to see something come together as you planned it. It's a little bit of therapy to just write it all down to hash out the ideas and see what I'm thiking, so excuse the wall of text that is this post.

I would very much like any input there might be, regardless!

Fluff wise, as a big DG player myself, I'm not too fond of the plumes on the helmets. DG are marked with strips down the helmet mostly, but if you like them then no problem! The rest looks really good to me!

DG were mostly non ornamental, at most denoting veteran status and sergeant status by black helmet stripes and battle damage. For your DG sergeant, either use a normal helm, or a DG helmet with the center black stripe. Really, IMO the best way to get the feel of both legions would be to use more MK II and III rather than MK IV, however than the price is subject to much more change. Are the circles in the vexilia even large enough for the etched brass? I've been playing with them, and they are even to small for most of the DG transfers.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.
