Subject: Militarum Tempestus Scions vs Skitarii troops

Guard Heavy Weapon Crewman

Hi all,
I'm coming from a background playing guard, and I never really liked the stormtroopers/ militarum tempestus scions. They always seemed way overcosted to me.
And yet, now that I am looking at Skitarii, I think they are awesomely point costed.... but I still don't like the stormtroopers.
I'm trying to figure out why this might be, because the models are very similar points for very similar stats and special weapons options. Anyone care to weigh in on the differences?
Cheers!

Skitarii have FNP 6+ where your scions don't. Scions can deep strike. Scions have ap3 weapons. Skitarii can be rangers or vanguard. Rangers for range support and precision shot. Vanguard can do extra wounds when rolling to wound of a 6 with their carbines and -1 T during assault. Orders of the Scions pretty nice and can be used more than once. Skitarii have their one turn effects.
Personally, They are both allie forces. I prefer my skitarii over scions due to available upgrades. They can be kitted out for anti-armor or anti-infantry. Scions done have as many options, but the deep strike is nice.

Scions also often get Objective Secured which is a big deal combined with Deep Strike.
Both forces do much better with allies.

What would they be the best allies to though?

Anything that compliments them. What else do you have? Every Imperial faction has something to offer.
One neat combo with Scions is the new Imperial Guard artillery formation. When its artillery fires at anything within 12" of a vox-caster, it becomes twin-linked. This includes Tempestus vox-casters.

That sounds like a bomb idea (pun intended) for a list.

Both together are actually quite nice, and until the FAQ comes out officially I have had a lot of luck running Vanguard in Taurox Primes. Usually I have deepstriking Scions all over the place for point destruction with the Vanguard bringing the pain. Since they all a bits squishy I have often thrown in a knight to attract attention.

Been thinking of fielding this for a while as an Ordo mechanicum force, with either a psycanon totting inquisitor in with a tempestus command squad or a grenade jugging xeno's inquisitor in with some vanguard. But the FAQ has made it less appealing, just wondering how you have enjoyed playing/it's performance? Also In using the scions Taurox as transport just wondering the Vanguard are still able to scout forward in them or does it not work due to not being a dedicated transport? How viable do you think the combination will be if the FAQ stays as it is, would using OS taurox from troop choices make up for not being able to deploy in the initially?
