The above title says it all really. The reason I ask is because I have read tactics of people using Nurgle Daemon Princes to summon in a CSM army but the rule book states they can only pick powers from Biomancy, Pyromancy or Telepathy but not Malefic.
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I can't see one for rules queries.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

First line of 'The Discipline of Daemonology' in the Psychic Phase section of the rulebook tells you that unless stated otherwise all Psykers can generate powers from Daemonology.

The CSM codex was written before Daemonology was invented, so it is added both by the generic permission in the 7th edition rulebook (referenced by Mr. Shine), and also the CSM FAQ (linky).

Also of note, that Daemon Princes from CSM will peril on any double when trying to manifest daemonology powers.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

How come? I never played this way. I took Daemons to mean models with the Daemon special rule.

Never mind. I thought it was psykers from Codex Chaos Daemons, not psykers with the Daemon special rule. My apologies.

I've never liked them using Daemons as a description. Because it's difficult to differentiate between the two.

Daemon refers to the Daemon USR, not the unit, codex or discipline. See BRB, Psychic Phase, The discipline of Daemonology.
Psykers with the Daemon special rule can manifest Malific powers as they would any other psychic power, but they cannot generate Santic powers at all.

(Unless you meant Daemonology Discipline, where indeed it would have been better just to add Malefic and Santic as completely separate disciplines for neatness.)

So, a Daemon prince from the CSM codex upgraded to be a psyker works just as well as a Tzeentch Herald from the Chaos Daemon codex for Maelfic powers.
A CSM Sorcerer perils on all doubles, but thanks to the spell familiar is still better off than other psykers in that regard.

Unless that Csm sorcerer is wearing that special crimson slaughter possessed armour... that is a legitimate way to make a chaos sorcerer a daemon, right?

It's not Daemonheart armor, but Prophet of the Voices I think that gives the Lord or Sorcerer the Daemon rule. But Daemonheart is awesome too, can't go wrong with a 2+ armor and it wont die!

Ah that's it! Prophet of the Voices.... thinking about it that's a really fluffy name for an ability on a sorcerer who is about to summon a truck load of daemons!

The voices say you're gonna die horribly *sparkle sparkle* BLOOD LETTERS!
