Hi everyone! I am new to Necrons, and I'm just coming back to playing Warhammer from a long break from the game. So I have decided to start collecting Necrons and I'm new to the army and don't know what models or where to start. obviously the starting collection box may be the way to start out? Right now me and my buddies are just going to start out with 500 points and then eventually move towards 1000-3000 point army lists. Any recommendations you have for me into which models I should have in my army. a 500 point list would be helpful and a 1000 point list will be nice to! just looking to see what I should use in my army, what's good and what should I stay away from. One friend is playing tau and the other is playing imperial guard or dark angels if that helps. Thanks in advance for the help and info that you may have for me.

The starter box is good, but I'm not a fan of Stalkers at low point games and Scarabs are pretty bad all around. I would buy individual kits. Here are a couple of lists to consider:

500 POINTS
Overlord: Warscythe, Phase Shifter
10x Warriors
5x Immortals with Gauss (Put the Overlord here)
4x Wraiths

This is a pretty balanced core that I would expand to:

1000 POINTS
Overlord: Warscythe, Phase Shifter, Gauntlet of Fire
5x Lychguard: Hyperphase Swords, Dispersion Shields, Night Scythe (Put Overlord here)
10x Warriors
10x Warriors
5x Immortals with Gauss
6x Wraiths

From there I would build a Decurion by adding some Tomb Blades and putting those Wraiths into a Canoptek Harvest. I find that Decurions aren't really practical until you hit the 1500 point mark. I hope this helps!
