Troubled By Non-Compliant Worlds

I'm looking at building my next army for tournaments, and am really excited about a potential Guard Renegade Army from IA 13. I was wondering if anyone has tried to run these, and if so, what they're putting into it.
Right off the bat, I'm concerned about the lack of 'ignores cover saves' weaponry with Jink being so prevalent these days. I'm also not really seeing a death star type of unit, so I'm curious if anyone has run or seen them run competitively and how it turned out.

Wyverns are your best friend to alleviate that concern.
Oh, and ally some CSM for Sicarans.
Jink, ha!

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you. |

Wyverns shreds infantry really really well, but do nothing to skimmers.
When playing renegades you need to stick to your advantages-dirt cheap units you got.
Namely, spawn, flamer sentinels, anything with blast (as you don't care of the BS penalty with blasts) and such other "junk" units, the varks detachments can also put out some incredible spam lists.
The main problem with being competitive with renegades, is that they make orks look like an elite army. they are all about the ungodly spam, and when you are on a clock its an issue.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now. |

Renegades and Heretics are not a Maelstrom army. Your competitive list most likely will consist of as much artillery as you can cram in, followed by every single body you can muster. Arty is cheap, resilient and BS2 matters not, and you can just keep spamming dudes at the enemy. Sure, you're likely to take 50%+ casualties, but when most of your units are 3 points a guy, its not a major loss.
And in terms of deathstars, there is technically one that you can make in the book, although its less of a deathstar and more of a deathblob. Mutants marked with Khorne, Enforcer and other things to taste. A guy in my local group runs it so I'm not sure on the details of his blob.

I'm leaning towards a Skaven Cult of 40k 'Skavengers', so a horde makes sense anyhow.
I feel as if the devotions and covenants can be paired to make a more crushing combo than the average guard army, I just haven't figured out what the perfect fit is in reading the lists.

I think they have crazy potential - the vraks unending host and purge detachments are both VERY strong. Some units are massively better than others - basically rapiers, plague zombies, spawn and field artillery are your friends!

I am considering dropping the 11 zombie mob to add more crew to each earthshaker. Having 1 dude up front to soak up the first wound, especially if it's a D shot is very useful.

Not really on topic, but if you change one of those purge detachments to a CAD, you could take the exact same units and make all of your plague zombies obsec. Looks like an extremely dangerous list

The general idea here is fairly straightfoward. Drown the enemy in blast templates while the Knights and the VSG soak hits. The Knights move up aggressively and engage targets that have either been weakened by the artillery, or close and destroy units that can threaten them. Don't be afraid to charge your Knights into something scary and try and get some hits and stomps off. Worst case scenario your Knight dies and you get a D blast right in the middle of the scary enemy blob. Hope it doesn't have a 2+ rerollable.
