I know people will say 7th edition. Thing is, did GW ever call it 7th edition? I don't see anywhere on the cover that it says 7th edition. I can't remember if 6th edition had it somewhere on the cover, but I believe GW called it 6th edition. (I could be wrong though.) So would the latest edition be a living edition off 6th, and not really 7th edition? We just assume it's 7th edition. But officially what is it?

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.
Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

I don't now about "Officially", but the BRB and many of the Codeces are in 7th Edition.
Some Codeces (e.g. Chaos) are stuck in 6th and as such the game overall isn't in 7th so much as it is "Taking its sweet, sweet time transitioning into 7th."

I disagree with this assessment. C: CSM is a 5th edition codex + fliers.

Well on the assumption that I'm wrong and you're right, we're still not in 7th Edition overall, with a number of armies still waiting to be transitioned to 7th Edition.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

GW have never labelled any of their editions on the books. I assume because making it clear to players which version of the rules any given publication belongs to is otiose.
The FAQs do refer to it as 7th edition, though.
Fairly sure the designer's articles for the release did so as well. Automatically Appended Next Post: IllumiNini wrote:

The game is in its 7th edition. Those codexes written for previous editions have been (theoretically) updated to the current edition by FAQ/errata.

Fair enough. The FAQ "Update" feels to me like GW are putting a band-aid on a stab wound and calling it healed. But if GW honestly consider the FAQ to be updating the out-of-date codeces to 7th Edition, I'm worried (or at least more worried than I used to be haha).

He's referring to the FAQs that already exist, not the new one that's currently a draft.

7th edition. The core rules are now a distant relative of the 3rd edition core rules.
