If I'm being completely honest, I was an AoS hater. It was hard not to be with the amount of hate being constantly spewed by the community. I read that AoS was a bad game from multiple people on the internet so surely it was true..

Well, I tried the game anyway and after my first game I started to think they were right. Something felt off. Well, with the news about MatchPlay I decided to dust off my Khorne and give AoS one more shot and I figured out why I originally didn't like the game, it's not 40k. However, knowing this, I was able to open my mind, stop comparing it to 40k and enjoy a whole new wargaming experience. This is my write-up: http://midwestwargaming.com/age-sigmar-second-chance/

Hey, fun write up to read. I hear you though, it took a bit of time for me not to despise the idea of Age of Sigmar. Once I was able to take the blinders off as well, it has been the most I have enjoyed assembling an army for a game. Just the fun I was having getting things together got me to experiment with painting techniques I have never used. Really makes me wish I would have tried it sooner haha.

A lot of the hate was unfounded and unjustified and much of it was based off of no actual experience as well, just joining in the echo tunnel of hate.

I'm glad that you were able to put your emotions aside for a moment and come at it from the perspective that it was a different experience.

While not everyone will match that (i get it i really do, games like warmachine and kings of war repel me, but to each their own) I find that I can't truly get into a system until I've given it an actual fair shake on its own away from the things I'm trying to compare it to.

Nice to see that you gave AoS another chance and actually liked it.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

That was a great write-up!

It seems to becoming a more and more common occurance these days, and it's quite inspiring so see so many cool players and armies spring up :-)

Great to have you back. I also have to compliment you on those figures as well, very nicely done and no nonsense about it.

If you can't believe in yourself, believe in me! Believe in the Dakka who believes in you!

Change always breeds contempt. Sweeping change tends to breed seething rage. Full disclosure: I never played WFB, and I haven't played AoS (yet). I'm still pretty new to wargaming, but I followed the 40k and WFB lore for quite some times through video games and pen and papers. When I decided to start a 40k army, I was ready to pony up for a fantasy army to go alongside it. I was absolutely horrified to learn what GW had ton to a world that, while derivative, was still rich in lore. I'm still not sold on the lore behind AoS, but having watched several online BatReps for AoS in the last few weeks and getting absolutely addicted to Total Warhammer (I don't care what Creative Assembly decided. That's what I'm calling it), I'm giving some serious consideration to making Death or Chaos my next army.
