I've wanted to try this circuitry effect for a while but never had the opportunity, I'm glad I got around to it. Its a very simple trick and I think the end result is a cool addition to a table top standard level figure.

There's a lot of ways to do it, but in this case I just painted all of the 'circuitry' in white, then went back with my airbrush red, focused some spots with orange and yellow, and finally went back and
retraced the lines with orange/yellow/white. It's surprisingly quick and can be altered for a lot of different applications.

Hmm...gotta say I'm not feeling the random circuitry painting. I'm sure it's just an effort to do something different, but I definitely don't find it very attractive.

The whole thing just doesn't really work for me. The paintwork is fine though.

I really like the circuitry effect on its own. Looking at the entire model though, it's not as appealing. Looks great on the gun.

Still, nice work.

I didn't interpreted it as just circuitry but more so heating underneath the armor, and seeing it like that i kinda liked it. Especially in the first short, however the backside of the gun, the red there is too much for me, just that little part. .

Life is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless and perfunctory gift nobody ever asked for. Unreturnable because all you get back is another box of chocolates. So you're stuck with this undefinable whipped mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down because there's nothing left to drink. Sure once in a while there's a peanut butter cup or a English toffee, but they're gone too fast and the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits of hardened jelly and teeth shattering nuts. If you're desperate enough to eat those all you've got left is a. An empty box, filled with useless brown paper wrappers.

I think 40k is just not right for this sort of effect. It's a strange blend of sci-fi-fantasy that the players know are not real, but expect more reality from? Does that make sense?

I din't think so - basically it's a gritty enough setting that 'high fantasy' and 'high sci-fi' inherently fall out of place in it. Players overlook or forgive the inherent silliness of the setting on one hand, but on the other, something like 'real circuitry would never be so hot that it would be visible through thick armor plating' is a legitimate observation that breaks immersion.

The effect is not for me but it does look well executed.

This effect would be FANTASTIC on a stealth suit going into stealth mode though.

A very striking model – and I'd like to comment especially to thank you for taking the time to talk through the process you used for the technique; much more friendly and useful than simply plopping down pics!

Huge thanks to everyone for taking the time, I agree the circuitry effect is out there but I want to give it another shot with more integration. Thanks for the compliments/criticisms, we need both.

Everything on the base is from www.gamersgrass.com , I got a sample of their stuff at NOVA and ordered most all of it, its the best stuff Ive found thus far.

It's a cool idea, but I personally don't find it adds much to the model, especially on the shield, which looks strange. I think doing an entire model in this fashion would look really cool though, if done right.

I do not know what the hell everyone is talking about. Thats one of the best looking models I ever seen. But people hate my stuff to so go figure.

I thunk it makes them stand out more as alien and different then the normal. Looks alot less like wires to me tho since it is on armour and more along the lines of the is what the armour is made off. Like it is repairing or charging up. Alot better sheild type look then the imaginary ghost circle trapped in a iron halo.

All in all very nice adding you to friends following you and hope you keep the interesting stuff coming and not the boring base armour wih highligh.

^ I think the paint is like the Stormsurge itself, its very polarizing. I do think a full model with the effect would look cool, maybe there is one in the future.

Hmmm...I like it It's always fun to see new tricks, and in retrospect, it's a bit surprising that no one (I've seen) has tried that effect. You certainly see it often enough in the sorts of anime and art that the Tau aesthetic is ripped out of, that you would think someone would've already given it a go.

Well done.

This is my beef wi-th airbrush....I think you're a great painter, I've seen your other works, but this looks like you relied to heavily on the airbrush to work for you and it basically looks like the model is simply zenithal primed. It doesn't look painted at all. I think the tech effect is quite nice actually and would be quite striking on a model that was painted more effectively, especially building a palette that worked for the effect. To me where the effect is lost, is on the armor, not the circuitry. Anyways, no worries, working it out in the shed man, makes ya stronger that's for showing us your experiments.

You do make a valid point, but something to consider is that Ive entered the shallow end of the commission painting world recently. Like I stated in my OP, this is meant as a table top standard level, as you mentioned I can push well beyond this level with my other works. What I aimed for with this one is to have an example of 'more bang for the buck' at a lower commission rate to help enrich my portfolio, if that makes sense.

So in short, yes it could totally be better/more extensive, but would defeat the point.

The line highlights on the grey are unfortunately sloppy, and aren't actually necessary at that quality since you have zenithal and a lot of detail work to give depth

I'm sure you can improve on the static grass though. While the tufts look good, the other grass just lies entirely flat. And it is quite brightly green. May I ask which brand you used and if you have some kind of applicator?

My stance has to align with bebops - though I oppose what most people say and think the whack orangey patterns look really great! Definitely looking forward to what you produce with more integration like you said. I do however feel as though this effect has almost attempted to distract from what otherwise seems to be an unfinished model.

As bebop said, a zenithal prime with not much else. This is by no means a criticism of your ability or style, I commend both. But with just a smidge more time invested in detailing this miniature could really shine. I cant take my eyes off the burst cannons as they look as though they've barely been started

Don't get me wrong, you've done well so far and your effects to me look good but I simply don't think it is a complete paintjob as of yet.

The grey and orange actually reminds me of the marketing for the Battlefield franchise for the last few games. Haha now when I look at this Stormsurge, all I can hear is the "theme song" from the last few games, or rather "theme noise."

The paintwork is truly amazing! I like the stormsurge, but I feel the circutry effect is not right for this model. An excellent idea, for a stealth team, perhaps, or even a very tech based SM army!

I like the body (I'm assuming airbrush) and the circuitry is a neat effect and well done. It has a very anime look to it. My only problem with the circuitry is the placement of some of it. The gun makes perfect sense, but the leg doesn't really make any sense to me. Why would that have circuitry showing through? Also, I would except all the cylinders on the gun to have the circuitry showing. My only criticism on the painting is of the highlights which seem too thick in places. Also, the back of the legs have the same highlight color as the front, but are all uniform colored. I would think there would be more lighter areas if there was that many highlights and the highlights would be a different color considering the bluish grey on the front and black on the back. Overall though, this is a great looking model and you should be very proud of it.

I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally
