Hello, I am interested in daemons for my last army. I want to keep it low model count but also effective. Was thinking a bloodthirster, fateweaver,, some pink horrors , a couple of screamers and then ally in typhus and some plague marines (and oblits) purely for cool factor. Would this be effective? would this fit a 1500 point list. Should I put a daemon prince in? Those plague marines would get ob sec if i brought them in with typhus? where can I find this?

in short, is there a build out there that is an effective low model count daemons army?

its too bad there is no start collecting for pink horrors... :-( is there a new daemons codex out or daemonic incursion is the newest one? do you guys have any links for your favorite looking daemons army.

appreciate the answers from the chaos players as i know you guys are super hardcore for chaos...it just seems like the chaos people are so dedicated to it!

You want low model count? Infernal Tetrade. Cyclopia Cabal, Waro flame host.

Well you do have the ultimate low model count army available in the Infernal Tetrad:

Daemon Prince of Khorne (Wings, Armour of Scorn, 2x Greater, Lesser)
Daemon Prince of Tzeentch (Wings, ML3, Impossible Robes, 2x Greater, Lesser)
Daemon Prince of Nurgle (Wings, ML3, 2x Greater)
Daemon Prince of Slaanesh (Wings, ML3, Armor, Soulstealer, 2x Greater)

Which brings you in at ~1400pts for 4 models. Its a decent enough army vs 'regular' opponents but it suffers against basically all the armies that are considered top tier (Eldar, gr. Fill it out with a Nurgling Tallyband + Furies to make the full Daemonic Incursion and you're still at only than 30 models.

A similar army that's a bit more consistent is all Nurgle princes:
GUO
3x Nurgle Daemon Princes (ML3, Wings, 2x Greater Rewards) as Heavy Support
Horrors, Screamers, Heralds to fill.

Or one that's been winning big tournaments (in the hands of very skilled players):
Fateweaver
D-Thirster
2x Horrors
Daemon Prince of Tzeentch (as Heavy Support)

Allied CSM:
Be'Lakor
Heldrake
Cultists

You definitely have options to go low model count as Daemon Princes are 300pts + when kitted out, and you can take 600pts of Heralds for one HQ slot - but you do often need some combat punch and the best stuff daemons have is in the Flesh Hounds or Screamers which aren't very expensive.

Wow very interesting. If they are all flying though then how do they assault. Dont they have to drop to gliding or something then assault making like 3 turn assaults? Also can they start swooping from deployment or do they have to glide in beginning? If they cant start swooping then they are vulnerable to first turn alpha arent they?

Summoning isnt competitive?

They don't all fly. They are all T6, one has a ++3 save, the other is effectively T7 thanks to armor of skorn, and another has a +2 cover save from jink. So they are pretty durable on the ground. Slaanesh is the only one that should be flying, unless tactically getting in the air is a good idea, like wulfen spam. Pending on the warlord trait you get, they could all be even stronger and harder to kill.

Summoning is the opposite of low model count. It is about as high model count as you can go, as you never know what you will want to summon, so you have to bring tons and tons of models so you are prepared to summon anything and everything. That is IF you are even lucky enough to roll anything aside the primaris.

Interesting. Makes sense. I didnt know the daemon princes were that good! I assume if i was going to summon it would be a unit or two of pink horrors for extra warp charge. Are there any builds out there with bloodthirster and belakor and maybe a daemon prince. Infernal tetrad is best bet eh?

Infernal tetrad is a very good formation because of it's bonuses.

First, while all 4 daemon princes are alive you get the following: +1 strength, +1 toughness, and re-rolling 1s to hit in CC.
Second, all 4 daemon princes share warlord traits. So if you roll on the Tzeentch table, you could wind up with all of them being ML4, and khorne being ML1, or them all having a ++4 save, or whenever someone targets them, they are -1WS/BS, which is superb. That + invulnerable save is seen as the best, as it makes the Tzeentch prince with robes a ++2 re-rolling invulnerable save. good luck with killing that. All of them being S7 base means that the Tzeentch dude hits S9 with his lesser reward (outclassing most greater daemons easily) the Khorne one can hit S8 with furious charge. Nurgle will be poison re-rolling with a balesword against just about everything, and Slaanesh lash will be at S7, basically 2D6 autocannon shots, which is also very nice.

Pink horrors are a go-to summon, as they will get to generate a new power, and can then summon more. You will want to focus on properly buffing your daemon princes first, pending on how you play the list. Check out the infernal tetrad tactics thread for that.

You could Bring Be'lakor and a D-thirster for an invisible D-thirster, but tetrad is king among daemon prince builds right now. At 1850 you can toss be'lakor in as well if you want .I prefer to bring the tallyband. I fought against a 3 DP+keeper of secrets with the CSM tzeentch head psyker dude, cypher and some other shenanigans with my tetrad. My herald turned into a D-thirster on turn 1, and my 4 princes pushed his army into a corner while my nurglings ran around corrupting objectives. His daemon princes could't mess with mine. I was stronger and tougher thanks to the tetrad.

Thanks for the in depth response. Sounds good. To bring in belakor i guess i would have to bring a csm allied detach.

The Mark of the Wulfen supplement gives Be'Lakor his own data slate. So he can be taken by himself without needing CSM.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Never needed CSM in the first place. His original dataslate was for both CSM and Daemons

The Wulfen update literalyl changed nothing about be'lakor
