I'm in the midst of re-building and re-painting my Astra Militarum army, and I've decided to build some little Cyclops tanks just for the fun of it. Probably won't ever run them, but building them is half the fun. For this, I picked up a pack of plasticard sheet, as well as some green stuff.

What I don't have is plasticard rod or tube. Is there a good alternative for this, or should I just look around at hobby/game stores more, or order some online? It would be used for rivets and such, and eventually some scratch built guns.

Cocktail sticks are a good, cheap alternative to practise with for rivets. A sharp knife will allow you to cut rounds from the centre. Paint over the area with watered-down PVA to seal the edge and cover any roughness.

For larger rods, keep an eye out for drink stirrers – you can find these very cheaply (or just pop to a local bar!)

Edit: For Cyclops bombs in particular, keep an eye on ebay for plastic Epic Land Raiders. Plentiful, cheap, and a great basis.

Get this:

I bought from them multiple times, and the whole set should keep you going for some time.

Cheers.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Local hobby store (if you can call a half hour drive "local") has a small assortment of plasticard rods and tubes for about $12. I love going there, but to drive out there just for plastic rod seems kind of silly.

As for that ebay link, it seems as though they don't ship to the US. Postage says "Doesn't Post to US"
