Hello friends!

I'm trying to make a few army lists of 500pts so that I can teach my GF to play (she actually wants to and that boggles my mind). She has picked Eldar and with it, a few units she likes that I have laying around here that I need to paint (purple, apparently). My goal of these games is not to be competitive at all, but rather just use some cool units that aren't completely overpowered to have fun games. I want her to enjoy the games, not be scared away by a Flying Hive Tyrant. I've been playing with a huge number of lists for me to use but none of them have been striking out as overly fun or beneficial in terms of learning the game. So here is her list that I made and why I chose it:

ELDAR 500 CAD

Farseer (Singing Spear)

Striking Scorpions w/Exarch (Scorpion Claw)

Dire Avengers (6x)

Dire Avengers (5x)

Swooping Hawks w/Exarch

I chose these for her so that she could benefit from the Psychic Phase with the Farseer, have a solid unit in Melee (and that can Infiltrate), and have some fast moving Jump Infantry that can also Deep Strike.


Here's where you come in... I'd like you to make a list for me! I don't want it to be tailored to fight this one specifically, but maybe use different unit types so she can learn those rules (plus variety is fun). So I ask you, fellow Dakka-ites, make some 500pt lists for me!

WIth the following restrictions, of course:

1. Any race except Eldar (Craftworld)
2. Not competitive
3. Cool things that don't find use in tournaments is encouraged
4. Themed lists are also encouraged

She is a professional photographer and once we get our games up and running with painted models and all the fancy terrain I have, we will get some fun battle reports posted for your enjoyment. Space marines are a fairly decent newcomer friendly list, so lets start with the basics right?

Captain, relic blade, jump pack (about on par with a farseer, I'd say)

2x6 man tactical squads, each with vet sarge heavy bolter and plasma in each

3 man bike squad, 1 plasma, vet sarge

5 man assault squad, vet sarge

501 points

You don't have any grav, so this list is already friendly Joking aside, this list is on par with the eldar one I'd say Footsloggers, good hq, a fast unit, and assault unit. 3+ saves across the board is simple, as well as t/s/ws/bs/4.

This good? I'd love to see those batreps, by the way!

Give her some situational things tl make each one of her units shine.

e.g.

A lord and berzerkers in a landraider. She needs to learn that her farseer with spear and her swooping hawks have to crack the can.
A hoard of orcs or tyrannids. How to use her battle focus and use her farseer. Deep striking the hawks multiple times to grenade pack them.
A hoard of guardsmen or tau hunkered down behind an aegis defense line
Chaos Slaanesh marines with an icon. Mind war the icon to take away the FNP.
I would also switch out a Dire Avenger for a Guardian Defender with a Warlock so she sees and learns the Runes of Battle or when she gets confident about a farseer subwtitue a spiritseer, Maybe give he a unit of wraithguard. (Nothing like seeing enhanced wraithguard beating up on guardsmen.
Also let her play with jetbikes. Start with regular then shuricannons and scattlasers.

Not sure how mismatched the Cavalry and Grinder might be. Could change their loadouts for more Daemons (or Psyker levels so you can introduce Deny the Witch too).

Imperial Guard?

Platoons are aesthetically pleasing, while vulnerable to Striking Scorpions when played correctly?

A Leman Russ Exterminator with the Auto cannons would teach the value of using your terrain, while not punishing mistakes too heavily, and being a tough nut to crack.

also a match up that would lend itself to very photogenic games, ambushes, last defences, base assaults, assassination type missions etc.

Thanks for all the awesome feedback, guys! I'm liking a lot of these ideas, they are definitely helping put some aspects in perspective.

The concept of Slaanesh daemons might be a good idea since it is fluffy, although there isn't any ranged attacks outside of psychic powers (since I don't think I would use a SoulGrinder).

The Tau list also looks good although I think I would switch out the Broadside for a Piranha to add the vehicle dynamic.

I don't have time right now to touch on all the great ideas up to now, but thank you all! It's going to be a lot of fun building whatever it is and adding some battle reports with great pictures.
