so, I'm expanding my Death Guard (got another Calth as a B-day gift), and I'm torn on which way to go:

I know all of the marines WILL be either support or heavy support, and I was curious on how I should kit them out.

When it comes to my army, I know I'm lacking in the AT department, so I plan on building 10 of them as Missile support teams (and getting a future 10-man autocannon squad since I love how they look when in MK III armour). Secondly, I want a 10-man flamer squad, simply to fit the DG style.

My issue comes from the last 10 marines in the box. I'm not sure weather to build them as Melta (I wanna go melta over plasma strictly for fluff reasons, though I'm not opposed to plasma squads), build them as heavy bolter marines, or hold off for a few weeks and build them up as volkite. Any thoughts or suggestions on how you guys run yours? If it helps, outside of terminators and tacticals, I have a few rapiers, 2 vindicators, and a heavy flamer support squad when it comes to specialized units (off the top of my head ).

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

Choom. The answer is always more Choom.

I like heavy bolters. They are cheap and reliable. I say they are probably the most under rated heavy weapon in the game.

Melta support squad, maybe not a full ten man. But extremely efficient AT unit. Toss them in a rhino and make things go boom.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

Do 5 plasma and 5 Melta, never go overboard on Melta because they generally wont get the bonus on an important vehicle because of armoured ceramite and to be honest needing to be within 6 inches to get the bonus means either giving them a rhino and doing a drive by or dont bother with it at all.

A 10 man missile squad is deadly and not bad points wise if you are playing 2000 pts or more. I use one with a Master of the Signal in my Luna Wolves army and they are brutal.

"I was never a Son of Horus. I was and remain a Luna Wolf. A proud son of Cthonia, a loyal servant of the Emperor."

Recasts are like Fight Cub. No one talks about it, but more people do it then you realize.

Armies.
Luna Wolves 4,000 Points
Thousand Sons 4,000 Points.

For the last 10 marines, I'd do 5 melta and 5 heavy bolters.

No one said you had to have a 10 man squad.

Of the support squads I have, I have gotten the most mileage out of Missile Launchers.

Out of Melta, Plasma, or Volkite, it HBs I'd go either plasma or volkite. Melta is dubious in 30K due to the armor upgrades available to so many vehicles.

Melta is still not without merit. Even without the extra d6 you are still S8 ap1. In numbers that can punch through almost any AV in the game and glace the one it cant punch. Volkite as much as I love using it or missile launchers(I play IW, I have missiles that shoot missiles that ride on missiles) cannot achieve quite the same parity in the AV role. Plasma while excellent vs termies and meq is even worse at AV than missles.

That said a heavy support team with missiles be them 5 or 10 man rarely isnt useful. If you are going to be encountering monstrous creatures then plasma is the way to go. Against AV though for close support you cannot beat melta teams especially in a drop pod.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
