I've noticed a few times that when I've posted photos of new models in my P&M blog in the morning that when I might have replied to someone else's comments before going to bed, that my new stuff just gets auto-appended to the previous post, and stays down at the bottom of the page. Sort of annoying, but not a huge deal because eventually someone sees the new stuff and then it gets bumped.

I'm planning to start a second "Tale of Painters" challenge from July-December in the P&M Blog forum, and rather than having one giant unwieldy OP to update (as there are 35 participants), would like to ideally "reserve" the first 6 followup posts for each month's showcases. I've seen it done on other forums where the OP for a project simply posts "post reserved" a few times and then is able to edit them when needed, later on. I'm wondering if there's any way to do so here? It's clearly a forum switch, so even if it were able to have auto-append "turned off" for 10 minutes at a pre-determined time it'd work.

No easy solution to the second one, but for the first: if you Attach photos to the post rather than just linking then from elsewhere, it bypasses the auto append.

You could do 6 placeholder photos with a quick graphic.
'Phase 2: 12/6/16, 250-500pts' etc
Something like this, it took me 4 seconds in Paint but with some effort could look nice.
