Knowing that many people own multiple armies, what have you found to be the most fun to play on the tabletop. Doesnt have to be most powerful (even though they go hand in hand other than eldar) but most fun.

I found a mix of my tau with stormsurge and dark angels ravenwing was the most fun gameplay wise so far.

Purely from fun, it's Orks. I mean there is so much ridiculous stuff and of course yelling out WAAAGH! during your WAAAGH!. I also put a small speaker on an Ork Battlewagon so it plays Brickhouse.
Wrecking balls, grabbing klaws, red paint jobs, and it's always cool to see Orky conversions.

WAAAGH!!!

I'd have to say that Orks are probably the most fun to play. I enjoy playing IG better, but Orks are all about fun. Once upon a time, several editions ago, I really enjoyed Dark Eldar for their unforgiving play style. Pulling a win always felt like winning on a higher difficulty level.

Dark Eldar as well, (perhaps that is just the "new army" feeling) although I feel bad for one-shotting my buddies warboss a few days ago

Orks for pure silliness and fun

Dark Eldar (Before the last codex and the constant tearing apart by GW and without Eldar allies) for strategy and skill

Chaos (Thousand Sons) for thematic games - well, in the past, again they are in a sorry state due to rules.

Thousand Sons: 3850pts / Space Marines Deathwatch 5000pts / Dark Eldar Webway Corsairs 2000pts / Scrapheap Challenged Orks 1500pts / Black Death 1500pts

Saga: (Vikings, Normans, Anglo Danes, Irish, Scots, Late Romans, Huns and Anglo Saxons), Lion Rampant, Ronin: (Bushi x2, Sohei), Frostgrave: (Enchanter, Thaumaturge, Illusionist)

Most fun to play as, or to play against?

Either way it does not matter, as the answer will always be Orks.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

Orks sound like fun until you get to a point where scooping handfulls of models off the table becomes draining. I love orks and I've heavilly considered collecting them, but I can't get over their poor combat and survivability.

Yep. Played 3 games today and each one was a bloodbath, even as I tried to use every resource and rule I could. My last game I was just grabbing whole units off the board while I only managed to take 4 marines with me.

Love my Orks but unless there are any updates/changes on the horizon, going to switch to another army so I can actually have a chance and not just provide "fun" for my opponents.

I would say either Harlequins or Dark Eldar, or both. They let you do a bunch of silly things and have fun doing it. Just stay away from Tau stuff.....

Probably my Orks for me. Everyone else in my meta plays SM (I play BA so not really the same), Necrons, Tau or Eldar.

I just have fun rolling with my Orks. I feel like it makes me a better general by winning with sub-par armies.

I enjoy playing with my new Renegades. Maybe it's the new thing, but I've got all kinds of mixed up guard guys who die en masse while laying down lots of las. Then, there's the chance squads who get wiped out just roll back in. Plays into my vision of hundreds of poorly-trained rebels just being thrown into battle.

Here's to me in my sober mood,
When I ramble, sit, and think.
Here's to me in my drunken mood,
When I gamble, sin, and drink.
And when my days are over,
And from this world I pass,
I hope they bury me upside down,
So the world can kiss my ass!

I've been playing my Tzeentch Daemons a lot, but this weekend I went to a 800 point team tournament. Teams were random each game, and it was a raffle prize system and restrictions on how many 13 Armor or 4+ wound models could be included. So it wasn't too competitive. I pulled out my Kan Wall army I used in 5th. It's a Klown Walker themed army, and I had the most fun with 40k I've had in a while. Just how silly they are, compliments from other people on the army looks as a whole (Silly/Scary), and doing Orky things. I had a single grot make a 2 morale check, then charge a paladin squad only not to be hit on the overwatch.

I suppose I should elaborate.

I voted Orks based on their performance pre-7th, when they were a fun army to play against and with. I think they've always been a little behind on the power curve, but they were fun to play. I haven't had a chance to play them in 7th, and I can't remember playing against them either, come to think of it...

But they used to be fun, and I remember both myself and my opponent having amazing games when I played Guard vs Orks, or I took the Orks vs whatever.

I always had the most fun playing with wolves. There are a lot of different options in that codex, and even more now (playing an all dreadnaught list is hilarious).

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...

Orks and your typical Space Marines, not Skyhammer, Centurion, Tigurius cheese. I'm talking an average Space Marine list, with Assault Marines with Jump packs and some Devastators and a couple Dreadnaughts

I'd argue it depends on the build of the army more so than the faction itself, for instance I can run 5 Wraithknights and be bored out of my skull of I can play 'Operation: make Lelith Hesperax good' where I inject 1200+ points into her rentinue to buff her up to make her great (lots of Farseers and Wraithblades) .

So maybe the question is which codex allows you to use a variety of lists that utilize different playstyles... in which case I'll have to say either Eldar because almost every unit is good or Marines for it's formation versatility

I'm having a blast with both my Harlequins and my Craftworld Eldar. Though you can make a dull craftworld list with just bikes and wraith units, the aspect warriors have some wicked fun special rules and busting out all of them makes for a really exciting game.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Infantry IG is a pain to move and to take out casualties but is rather fun to play when you get Coteaz with that rending debuff... rending lasguns FTW.

Other then that, I'd guess vet spam in chimeras should be the funnest, but I've yet to fully try it.

Sisters of Battle - they're a straight forward army to play, don't have any bs for the opponent to get annoyed about but still have enough little tricks of their own to make things interesting.

Plus they're a kinda rare/unique army which tends to light the eyes up of my non-regular opponents.

Get your hopes up playing an army full of Imperial Knights or baneblades. Sounds like a cool idea and you feel badass. Then you lose 9/10 games and realize you just lost so much money buolding a gakky army.

That's a question of taste.
I like the hard match-ups like those with my Necrons vs. Tau or Eldar. The decurion stands a chance to survive the shooting phases. It may still be an uphill battle in general but our Tau and Eldar players don't always bring the full cheese. Therefore, those battles are quite entertaining.

Of the armies I play, I actually have more fun with my Daemonkin. Sure, my other 2 armies are stronger, but Daemonkin has some unique rules and rule interactions (like the Blood Tithe table) that make it more interesting. Plus it's fun to say "Blood for the Blood God!" all the time...

Another reason is the kickass Bloodthirster model. Truly one of the best models GW has ever produced!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Fixed that to be true.

Most orks are just S3 and slow as bricks and even the fastest orks can't outrun an eldar jetbike.
Don't even start comparing special rules.

My favorite army is my "witchhunter" army, in which I use a primary inquisition detachment, allied with sisters of battle and as of currently also allied with Millitarum tempestus.
