I picked them up yesterday to give them a shot. As I expected, they are pretty much a varnish with paint mixed in, but they have great coverage and they are a quick/convenient way to do...well pretty much
what you'd use any clear paint for. It dries into an enamel finish, which is great as long as you dont plan on varnishing.

They are also way too thick to avoid brush strokes. I ended up thinning them slightly with water and then they go on great. Kind of defeats the 'gel' purpose, but on large flat surfaces I couldnt get an unmodified
layer to look good.

On these two examples it was used as the red of the armor. The first is on top of a black/grey gradient, the second on copper.

TLDR: They are convenient but nothing special. Will use again for certain things when time is a factor.

I guessed as soon as I saw them that they'd be very similar to "blood for the blood god" or "nurgles rot"...would that be fair to say?

also, my second thought about them is that I bet the blue and green ones over silver could be great for painting alpha legion...

I can't really think of many uses I would have for those paints, unfortunately...but I think I might have to get some just to try out for myself...they look interesting.

...it's good to be green!

Unfortunately, every single GW new releases paint-wise recently seems like a waste of money for most but beneficial for a select few. The Gemstone paints give results i could create with others, but these new gloss shades may be of some actual use for me...

I think I'm going to end up using the blue one to do a lot of Thousand Sons vehicles. Put down an airbrushed layer of steel, then striations of chrome, then this stuff all over for a nice blue rasberry.
