Like the title says, I'm just curious - Does your gaming group use the new death from the skies rule book?

I know that they officially replace the flyer rules, and are non-optional. And I've seen some youtube reviews of it and have a general idea of what they entail, and though I'm not super-stoked about it, it could be interesting to try, if only for the formation bonuses.

However, no one I play with uses them, and that's including an official GW store.

I guess no one is too keen on paying $60 for rules that by and large nerf your units.

I'm personally not going to buy it not because I'm dead-set against it, but because I know it'll be tied into 8th ed, just like escalation and 7th edition, and I don't want to have to buy the same ruleset twice.

Honestly, though, I'd be happy to try it out if someone had the book, but again, there has been zero interest in it in my area. Just curious if that's other people's experience as well.

We have zero interest in it, and ultimately pretend it doesn't exist until it becomes a part of the BRB.

It's an addition to the rules I believe is best ignored.

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

A recent tournament that I was going to attend that was cancelled even spelled out that they would not be using the Death from the Skies rules, and if you were dead set on playing those rules, don't bother to show up. Thats a bit ruder then the actual text but I can't remember what it was but the gist of it was NO, FETH NO, go away.

WH40K is already complicated and bloated as is, we need less rules and phases not more.

You know, that's an interesting sub-question - anyone been to a tournament since it came out, and if so, did the tournament use the rulebook?

It's a supplement, like escalation and all the other supplements. Meaning its optional, if you choose to use it, the rules within overwrite all rules in the BRB.

None the less, it is optional. Some people in my group use it, some people dont. Mostly it is a no, so I voted no.

My friends and I are still pretty new to the game, so a couple of us still don't have a very good understanding of the core rules as it is anyway. We don't want to add to the learning curve. Only a couple of us have flyers anyway.
