So after years of collecting guard and watching them collect dust in the basement I've decided to start a new project. This will also be a chance for me to develop my modelling and painting skills whilst participating in local tournies and events.

It was a close call, I've always played imperial forces (guard) and wanted to create a themed force on the brink of betrayal, set during the dark days leading up to the heresy.

I also wanted to work on my modelling skills and try new techniques, so I chose Word Bearers, easily one of the more complex tragedies in the books, from their belittlement by the emperor to their discovery of the primordial truth I was particularly keen on the sinister dark red colour scheme.

Background aside the Serrated Suns were an obvious choice, and I loved the high risk high reward aspect of fielding an orbital assault list. Risky but also competitive when done right.

Primary Goals

- Create a fluff inspired / competitive army list for local tournies
- Learn new modelling and painting techniques

Theme

- Serrated Suns Chapter theme
- Exclusive usage of maximus mk.iv armour (favoured by the XVII Legion)
- XVII Legion specific units

I decided to start with a seeker squad, these specialist teams were used to infiltrate behind enemy lines and take out command units. I could see them fitting in nicely with the Serrated Suns' strike hard and fast doctrines.

The mk.IV maximus armour was issued to the warmaster's legions first and was largely adopted by the word bearers legion. They are also more manoeuvrable and mobile than the older mk.II & mk.III variants, ideal for airborne drop squads.

These are the first pics I managed to take a few weeks back, unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of my most recent updates which I will post over the course of this week. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more updates

Just popped this over to blogs instead of showcase, as it's more suited for this subforum. Good luck, keep it up.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Just a quick update, as I am ordering the new Betrayal at Calth box set soon to flesh out my troops I'm looking to finish this squad by the end of the week.

After much deliberation I've decided to go for a slightly darker colour scheme, to emphasise on the "tainted legion" aspect as the seeds of heresy spread into the rank and file.

I am also looking at using different helmet colours to denote rank, speciality, etc... so I'm open to any propositions.

The next stage will be to finish the combi-weapons and highlight the details on the helmets and armour (e.g. scripted markings, lenses, etc...) which will be uploaded this week.

Thanks for reading, any constructive criticism or feedback would be appreciated!
