Howdy folks, just thought I would aim for some constructive criticism from the community. Just kind of getting into tau and just curious what people thought about the list. My friends are getting into a local tournament and I'm trying to run some games with them for practise. It's ITC format. Here's the list I'm planning on running:

Commander- 168
Coldstar suit
Drone controller
Stim injector

3x fire warriors(5)- 135

Stormsurge- 455
Twin-linked burst cannon
Pulse driver cannon
EWO
Velocity tracker
Shield gen

Riptide wing- 660
(All same layout)
Heavy burst, SMS
EWO, Stim injector

Drone net- 224
16x marker light drones.

Total-- 1642

Any comments would be much appreciated, looking for all the help I can get. Not trying to tailor my lists against their specific armies trying for an all comers. Thanks so much!

"Semi-competitive" and "riptide wing" don't belong in the same sentence.

3 (I assume) riptides will tear apart anything with markerlights on it, hell, anything without them on it.

I think if your commander is sitting with marker drones he's better with an iridium suit. Problem with the riptide wing can be that it's a little static. Needing to group up for buffs etc, meaning that you need some mobile scoring. Obviously you can use drones. But if also say your fire warriors won't get much done. You might be better running your CAD as Farsight Enclaves and taking some deep striking, more mobile crisis troops. (23pts for deep striking mobile objective secure is handy). Or take some Kroot for the sweet outflank steal... Just a thought.

Way less with the reroll from the formation) went two shooting unita and simplified your commander, you could make enough points for another riptide in the wing. One unit of two with a target lock on one.
