I use the notpad program on my computer and my codex. Then once i have written my list I type it into my tablet. Before that I just used a pen and paper with my codex.

I dont trust the army building programs, Too many times they have errors and since people who use them generaly never check their codexes and often dont bother bringing their codexes cus "The programs says all I need to know" so many errors are had..

Always Battlescribe but I usually double check with my codex unless I'm already using a well played list.

I got Army Builder as well but they are too slow on updates and the interface is worse in my opinion.

My little notebook and pen, which now contains 31 lists, 18 of which haven't been used.
I like to keep track of my adventures in codex land.
However, I will go over things several times, calculator in hand, before writing the stuff in.

Army Builder when I have time to check it, and after the lists have been updated.
Battlescribe when I need a list away from my PC.

Battlescribe.

For formal circumstances (tournaments) I’ll double-check the math with a calculator. But the only time I’ve found issues is right after a new codex gets released. Most of the major stuff is fine after a few revisions.

And the output has gotten a lot better, which was one of my classic problems with it.

Battlescribe to start with, check with my Codex/calculator/notepad and pen when finished for legality.

I compare battlescribe with codex to make sure new units and setups are valid and points are accurate, but having used it for awhile trust it enough now that everything for DA seems to be accurate (points wise). Still do a typed up and calculated list for tournies. Although I don't trust battlescribe enough for rules, only for unit profiles.

Battle scribe. It is really good. But you have to use it next to your codex. It replaces your spreadsheet not your codex.

Battlescribe. I used to only write my list down on a sheet of paper, but ever since I started playing with a group I find it's easier to give them I battlescribe sheet than to just read off my list.

Battlescribe. I've tried most of the other options, and Battlescribe has the fastest updates, best accuracy, and ease of use. It's not 100%, which is why like everyone else I cross-check with my codex.

What I like best is the ease at which Battlescribe on my phone let's me plug in my opponent's army for validation and to display their special rules that I need to be aware of.

Pen and paper. The iBooks army builders built into the codex arent bad, but have the occasional error and get corrupted if you close them with an army list built (it becomes impossible to remove units, rendering the app unusable). Battlescribe has errors and incomplete rules. My mate uses it and always get rules wrong because of incomplete wordings. In the end I always go back to pen, paper, and codex.

Same here. 100% all I use.

-- I find it easier to use than Battlescribe when writing up lists.
-- I find it to be a lot more flexible in how I write my lists.
-- From time to time (not a lot, but it happens), I find that Battlescribe has something missing (e.g. Artificer Armour on the C:SM Captain or something like that) or the cost of something is out by 5 or 10 points.
-- -- It's not a massive problem - not by a long shot - but it's enough to annoy me.
-- I find it easier to see exactly what you have in your list and exactly what each model/unit has.
-- It's easier to keep track of exact points for units overall and make sure that the points costs are correct.

@jeffersonian000:

The fact that you and the people you play with have to cross check with each other's codeces when using Battlescribe indicates to me that Battlescribe isn't really serving you as well as it should (whether that's on your end or Battlescribe's end, I can't say for sure).

A pen and paper.

For one thing it doesn't skip out on you if you forget to charge your battery or have a power outage.

For another it helps keep your basic maths up to scratch (always good!)
